Cardiothoracic Surgeon

ob Summary:

The CTVS Surgeon at Ajara Hospitals will be responsible for providing high-quality clinical care in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of diseases affecting the heart, lungs, chest, and blood vessels. The surgeon will perform complex surgical procedures such as open-heart surgeries, valve replacements, coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), vascular surgeries, and thoracic surgeries.

Key Responsibilities:

• Surgical Care:
• Perform a variety of cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries, including but not limited to CABG, valve repair/replacement, aortic aneurysm repair, lung resections, and vascular grafting.
• Manage and treat conditions such as congenital heart diseases, ischemic heart diseases, valvular heart diseases, and diseases of the aorta and peripheral arteries.
• Collaborate with cardiologists, pulmonologists, anesthesiologists, and other specialists in planning and executing surgical interventions.
• Pre-Operative and Post-Operative Care:
• Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments including diagnostic tests, patient history evaluation, and risk analysis.
• Develop post-operative care plans and closely monitor patients’ recovery in the intensive care unit (ICU) and post-surgery wards.
• Work with critical care teams to ensure optimal patient recovery and manage any post-surgical complications.
• Consultation and Diagnosis:
• Provide consultations for patients referred for cardio-thoracic and vascular issues, including interpreting diagnostic tests such as echocardiograms, angiograms, and CT scans.
• Diagnose conditions and plan both surgical and non-surgical treatment strategies.
• Team Collaboration:
• Lead a multidisciplinary surgical team, including scrub nurses, anesthetists, perfusionists, and surgical assistants.
• Participate in hospital rounds, case reviews, and multidisciplinary meetings.
• Maintain a high standard of teamwork, ensuring smooth coordination between departments for optimal patient outcomes.
• Patient Education and Counseling:
• Educate patients and their families about the nature of the disease, surgical options, and expected outcomes.
• Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and their families through challenging times.
• Training and Mentorship:
• Provide training and mentorship to junior doctors, residents, and medical staff.
• Participate in academic and research activities aimed at improving cardio-thoracic and vascular surgery techniques and patient outcomes.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• Education:
• MBBS, MS (General Surgery), and MCh/DNB in CTVS (Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery) from a recognized institution.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in performing cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries in a high-volume hospital or medical center.
• Demonstrated experience in handling critical surgical procedures and post-operative care.
• Skills:
• Expertise in managing complex cardiovascular and thoracic conditions.
• Proficiency in using advanced surgical techniques and technology such as minimally invasive surgeries.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and team management skills.
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
• Commitment to patient safety and high-quality clinical outcomes.
