Job Description:

The Microsoft Teams Voice Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and support of voice communications and solutions within Microsoft Teams. This role involves working closely with IT teams to integrate voice capabilities in Microsoft Teams, ensuring high-quality voice communications, and troubleshooting any issues related to voice services.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Implementation:
  • Design and implement Microsoft Teams voice solutions that integrate with existing telephony and IT infrastructure.
  • Configure and manage Direct Routing, Calling Plans, and Operator Connect within Microsoft Teams.
  • Set up and configure Session Border Controllers (SBCs) to connect existing telephony systems with Microsoft Teams.
  • Implement voice policies, routing rules, and voice applications within Microsoft Teams.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
  • Monitor the performance of voice services and make adjustments to improve quality and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to voice quality, connectivity, and routing.
  • Update and maintain voice systems to ensure compatibility with the latest Microsoft Teams features and security updates.
  • Collaboration and Support:
  • Work closely with network and IT teams to ensure that the voice infrastructure supports organizational needs.
  • Provide training and support to end-users on using voice features in Microsoft Teams.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and service providers to enhance voice services.
  • Documentation and Compliance:
  • Document voice system configurations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to voice communications.
  • Maintain records of system performance and issues for future reference and compliance.
  • Innovation and Improvement:
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in Microsoft Teams and voice technologies.
  • Recommend improvements and innovations to enhance voice communications.
  • Participate in pilot programs for new features and provide feedback to Microsoft or other vendors.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Teams, including voice configurations and integrations.
  • Experience with Session Border Controllers (SBCs) and VoIP technologies.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols such as SIP, RTP, and others related to voice communications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Certifications in Microsoft Teams or related technologies (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Teams Voice Engineer Expert).
  • Experience with cloud technologies and services, especially Microsoft Azure.
  • Understanding of compliance and security standards relevant to voice communications.
