Our client is a global manufacturing company and a market leader in the maritime sector. Recognized as a global leader in its segment, the company has built an enduring reputation and a far-reaching presence across major maritime markets worldwide. The company is now establishing its India subsidiary to strengthen local presence, customer engagement, service excellence, and long-term growth. To lead and build the India sales and service operations, they are seeking an experienced and business-driven sales professional. General Manager – Sales & Operations (Marine Industry)(Based in Mumbai) This is a strategic, high-visibility leadership role offering significant impact and autonomy. As the first hire for a newly established Indian entity, the General Manager, India will play a pivotal role in setting up and driving sales and service operations in the Indian market. Reporting directly to the headquarters leadership team, the role carries end-to-end responsibility across new equipment sales, aftermarkets and service sales, operations, team leadership, and P&L management. You will be responsible for business development, customer engagement, team management, and establishing long-term partnerships in the maritime sector. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES: Sales Management & Market Development: You will lead India operations with full commercial, service, and technical accountability. This includes driving business development by identifying, pursuing, and converting new opportunities with shipyards, vessel owners, and operators. Strategy Development: You will develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy for India across both newbuilding and after-sales service segments. Customer Engagement & Service Oversight: You will ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by delivering timely support and promoting service offerings. People Management: You will be responsible for hiring and managing a local team across sales and support functions. Financial Reporting: You will prepare and manage annual budgets and forecasts, track performance metrics, and maintain financial discipline. YOUR PROFILE: A degree in Marine, Naval Architecture, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering. At least 10 years of B2B sales and business development experience in the marine industry. Proven track record in B2B sales of capital equipment, technical systems, or engineered solutions within the shipbuilding and maritime ecosystem - covering shipyards, vessel owners, operators, EPC contractors, and government bodies. Experience with technical solutions including commissioning, repairs, and maintenance in maritime or offshore sectors is an advantage. Strong commercial acumen with a customer-focused mindset. Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and adaptable to a start-up environment. Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills. Financially astute with experience in strategic negotiation and budget management. Willingness to travel extensively within India and abroad.
