Key Responsibilities:As a seasoned expert in mainframe system software, you will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining enterprise-level systems on IBM z/OS platforms.Key Roles & ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement and maintain z/OS and subsystems (JES2, RACF, CICS, DB2, IMS) to ensure optimal performance and reliability.Manage system updates, PTFs, APARs using SMP/E to ensure seamless integration and compatibility across releases.Ensure system stability and compatibility across releases by monitoring and analyzing system logs, error reports and performance metrics.Performance Tuning & Capacity PlanningMonitor and optimize CPU, memory and I/O performance to maximize system efficiency and reduce downtime.Tune WLM, Sysplex and critical components to ensure optimal resource allocation and utilization.Conduct capacity planning and recommend hardware upgrades to meet business needs and growth.Security & ComplianceAdminister RACF and enforce security policies to protect sensitive data and prevent unauthorized access.Ensure compliance with SOX, PCI-DSS, HIPAA regulations by implementing and maintaining robust security controls and protocols.Apply security patches and mitigate vulnerabilities to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of data.Storage & Backup ManagementManage DFSMS, VSAM, HSM and storage tools to optimize disk and tape storage usage and ensure data availability.Oversee backups, DR and high-availability solutions to ensure business continuity and minimize downtime.Optimize disk and tape storage usage to reduce costs and improve system performance.Incident Management & TroubleshootingDiagnose and resolve system abends and bottlenecks to minimize downtime and maximize system availability.Analyze dumps, logs and traces to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.Collaborate with IBM support and vendors to resolve complex issues and ensure timely resolution.Automation & ScriptingDevelop automation using REXX, JCL, CLIST, Ansible to streamline processes, improve efficiency and reduce manual errors.Improve monitoring, job scheduling and efficiency by implementing automation and scripting solutions.Automate repetitive tasks to minimize manual intervention and improve overall productivity.Disaster Recovery & High AvailabilityImplement and test disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity and minimize downtime.Maintain Parallel Sysplex and failover configurations to ensure high availability and minimize disruption.Documentation & Knowledge SharingMaintain technical documentation and best practices to ensure knowledge sharing and transfer.Mentor junior team members and share knowledge to promote skill development and succession planning.
