We are seeking a talented and experienced Traction Motor Designer lead to join our dynamic engineering team.
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Hardware Design Lead to join our dynamic team responsible for the development and design of cutting-edge Traction Inverters and Vehicle Control Units (VCU) for electric vehicles. The ideal candidate will lead hardware design efforts, ensuring that our products meet performance, safety, and reliability standards while adhering to the latest automotive and industry regulations. This role involves collaborating cross-functionally with systems, software, and testing teams, and driving innovation in the electrification of automotive technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Hardware Design: Design, development, and integration of hardware components for traction inverters and VCUs, ensuring efficient power conversion, motor control, and vehicle system management.
- Design & Architecture: Define and develop system architectures for traction inverter and VCU hardware, with a focus on reliability, power efficiency, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), thermal management, and safety.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including software, firmware, mechanical engineering, and testing to integrate hardware with software systems and vehicle platforms.
- Component Selection: Select and specify appropriate components (e.g., power semiconductors, microcontrollers, sensors, filters, etc.) based on requirements, and manage relationships with suppliers for key components.
- Prototyping and Testing: Lead the prototyping phase of hardware design, collaborating with validation and testing teams to ensure that designs meet functional, performance, and regulatory requirements.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards and certifications, such as ISO 26262 (Functional Safety), IEC 61800 (Drive Systems), and automotive EMC standards.
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Drive innovation in hardware design, actively researching and integrating new technologies and solutions to improve performance, reduce cost, and enhance the scalability of traction inverter and VCU systems.
- Documentation: Oversee the creation of detailed documentation including design specifications, schematics, test plans, and reports to ensure traceability and compliance.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
- 8+ years of experience in hardware design, with a minimum of 3 years focused work on the design of power electronics (traction inverters) and/or automotive control units (VCUs).
- Proven track record of designing high-performance power electronics for automotive applications, including electric motor controllers, inverters, and power supplies.
- Experience with automotive product development cycles, and familiarity with regulatory standards such as ISO 26262 and other safety standards.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of power electronics, motor control systems, and electric drive systems.
- Proficiency in hardware design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence, Mentor Graphics) for schematic capture, PCB layout, and design validation.
- Hands-on experience with power semiconductor devices (IGBTs, MOSFETs), filters, converters, and high-voltage systems.
- In-depth knowledge of signal integrity, EMC, and thermal management in automotive hardware.
- Familiarity with microcontroller, DSP, and FPGA-based designs for automotive systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex hardware issues.
- Familiarity with simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink) for hardware design and analysis.
- Experience with automotive communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, FlexRay, or Ethernet.
