Overview: A Sales Manager - Distribution Sales is responsible for managing and expanding the distribution network of a company’s products or services. This role focuses on building strong relationships with channel partners, dealers, wholesalers, and distributors to increase market share, meet revenue targets, and ensure the efficient flow of products to end customers. The position requires a strategic mindset, excellent leadership and communication skills, and a deep understanding of channel sales dynamics. Distribution Network Management: Develop and manage the distribution network, ensuring that partners align with company objectives. Identify and onboard new distributors or channel partners in untapped regions. Evaluate the performance of existing distributors and take corrective actions when needed. Maintain healthy relationships with all channel partners to ensure trust and loyalty. 2. Sales Planning & Execution: Prepare sales strategies and execution plans tailored to regional and distribution partner capabilities. Set monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets for distributors and ensure timely achievement. Monitor sell-in and sell-out data to balance inventory and avoid overstocking or shortages. 3. Revenue and Target Achievement: Drive revenue growth by ensuring that channel partners meet their sales and volume targets. Track KPIs such as sales volumes, margins, returns, and distributor growth. Analyze sales trends and market conditions to make data-driven decisions and forecasts. 4. Team and Channel Partner Training: Provide training and development support to distributor sales teams to enhance product knowledge and sales techniques. Conduct product launches, promotional activities, and partner engagement events in collaboration with the marketing team. Support the development of territory sales representatives under your management. 5. Market Expansion and Business Development: Identify growth opportunities in existing and new markets through competitive analysis and market feedback. Collaborate with internal stakeholders (marketing, product, logistics) to support distributors in driving business. Launch new products in coordination with distributors and plan sales targets accordingly. 6. Customer Relationship Management: Act as a point of contact between the company and the channel/distribution partners. Resolve disputes, manage escalations, and ensure customer satisfaction through proper service delivery via partners. Collect customer and market feedback through distributors to influence product development and improvements. 7. Reporting and Analysis: Generate weekly, monthly, and quarterly sales and performance reports. Analyze sales figures, partner performance, market share, and profit margins to report to senior management. Use CRM tools or ERP systems to maintain accurate records of distribution sales data. Required Skills and Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, or a related field. A Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) is preferred and often advantageous. Experience: Strong background in managing regional or national distribution networks. Experience in industries like FMCG, electronics, automotive, pharmaceuticals, or industrial products is highly valuable. Technical and Professional Skills: Proven track record of achieving or exceeding distribution sales targets. Good knowledge of channel sales strategies, pricing models, and logistics management. Proficiency in using CRM software (like Salesforce, Zoho), ERP systems, and MS Office tools (especially Excel and PowerPoint). Interpersonal and Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management abilities. Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills. High level of motivation and a proactive approach to solving problems. Ability to build long-term relationships with partners and internal teams.
