
Urgent: Staff Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Staff Nurse / Senior Staff Nurse to join our Operation Theatre (OT) team. The ideal candidate will be a critical part of the surgical team, ensuring a safe, sterile, and efficient environment for all procedures. This role requires a strong understanding of surgical protocols, exceptional attention to detail, and a firm commitment to patient and staff safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Preoperative & Surgical Preparation:
- Understand and manage the OT routine, equipment, and patient flow.
- Prepare for scheduled surgeries by ensuring all necessary medications, consumables, instruments, and equipment are available.
- Identify instruments for each surgery, check their cleanliness and functionality, and ensure they are properly sterilized via autoclaving or gas sterilization.
- Receive patients in the preoperative area, confirming the right patient, correct documents, and right surgery before transferring them to the OT.
- Surgical Safety & Compliance:
- Strictly follow the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist, including the counting of instruments and consumables to prevent items from being left inside the patient.
- Adhere to all surgical safety measures for patient care and self-protection.
- Implement all protocols related to hand washing, infection control, medication, and the narcotic policy.
- Be aware of and practice proper narcotic management, including storage and documentation of usage.
- Ensure adherence to NABH & Nursing Excellence standards.
- Patient Care & Documentation:
- Procure all blood and blood products for transfusion and immediately report any adverse reactions to the treating consultant, In-charge, and Nursing Superintendent.
- Ensure all documentation for completed surgeries is accurate and up-to-date.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information, avoiding any discussion of identifiable details in non-secure areas.
- Operational Management:
- Coordinate with support departments to ensure patient and attendant comfort.
- Contribute to cost control by preventing the misuse or wastage of materials.
Educational Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- A valid State Registration Nursing Council Certificate is mandatory.

- Surgical Acumen: Strong understanding of surgical procedures, instruments, and the sterile field.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous in surgical counts, documentation, and medication management.
- Compliance: A firm commitment to following all safety, infection control, and regulatory protocols (WHO, NABH).
- Communication: Excellent communication skills to interact with the surgical team and other departments.
- Problem-Solving: The ability to anticipate and quickly resolve issues that may arise during surgical preparation or procedures.
- Teamwork: Strong collaborative spirit to work effectively within a high-stakes team environment.
