Project Assistant

Job Summary: We are seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Project Assistant – Agriculture to support the execution of agricultural research, field operations, and rural development projects. The Project Assistant will work closely with agricultural scientists, project coordinators, and field teams to ensure effective implementation of project activities, data collection, farmer engagement, and monitoring tasks. This role involves both office and field-based responsibilities, including organizing field trials, interacting with farmers, collecting and analyzing field data, maintaining records, and contributing to agricultural training and awareness programs. It is ideally suited for candidates passionate about sustainable agriculture, crop science, rural livelihoods, and community development.Key Responsibilities:1. Project Implementation Support Assist in planning and executing agricultural project activities as per the approved work plan. Coordinate field demonstrations, experiments, and crop trials under the supervision of the project lead or scientist. Help in setting up experimental plots, applying inputs, recording observations, and managing irrigation and pest control schedules. Maintain regular communication with farmer groups and project beneficiaries to ensure participation and feedback. 2. Field Data Collection and Documentation Collect data from agricultural fields on soil conditions, crop performance, weather impact, pest and disease presence, and other related factors. Record observations accurately in data sheets or digital formats using mobile or GPS-enabled applications. Take photographs, measurements, and samples when required, ensuring quality and accuracy. Compile and organize field data for analysis and reporting by the project team. 3. Farmer Interaction and Extension Activities Serve as a liaison between the project team and local farmers or stakeholders. Organize farmer meetings, training sessions, field days, and demonstrations to promote best agricultural practices. Distribute project materials, training aids, input samples, or information brochures to participating farmers. Answer farmers' basic questions about agricultural techniques, climate adaptation, and input use under the guidance of experts. 4. Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Assist in the development of basic monitoring formats and evaluation checklists for tracking project progress. Conduct routine field visits to monitor ongoing project activities and verify implementation status. Report deviations, challenges, and success stories from the field to the project manager for timely action. Support in preparing progress reports, monthly updates, and project documentation. 5. Administrative and Logistical Support Help with the procurement and distribution of seeds, fertilizers, tools, and other agricultural inputs. Maintain inventory records and usage logs of equipment and materials used during field operations. Coordinate with transport and local vendors for the delivery of materials to remote project sites. Prepare attendance sheets, meeting notes, and expense statements as required.Skills and Competencies: Good knowledge of crop production, irrigation, fertilizers, pest control, and soil health management. Familiarity with common farm tools, input usage, and cultivation practices. Ability to communicate effectively with farmers, local stakeholders, and project teams. Strong observation, recordkeeping, and data collection skills. Basic computer skills – MS Word, Excel, internet browsing; familiarity with GIS/mobile data collection is an added advantage. Comfortable working in rural and semi-urban environments with frequent travel.
