Job Overview The Sales Manager – Automation is responsible for driving business growth, lead generation, and client relationship management in the field of industrial automation solutions. The role involves developing strategies to identify potential customers, promoting automation products and services, managing key accounts, and achieving revenue targets. The ideal candidate should have a strong technical understanding of automation systems, including PLC, SCADA, DCS, robotics, process automation, and IoT-based solutions, combined with excellent sales, negotiation, and leadership skills. Key Responsibilities 1. Business Development & Lead Generation Identify potential clients and new business opportunities in the industrial automation domain. Research industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging technologies to identify high-potential markets. Generate leads through cold calling, networking, exhibitions, referrals, and industry events. Develop strategies to penetrate new markets and sectors, including manufacturing, automotive, pharmaceuticals, FMCG, and more. 2. Client Relationship Management Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with existing and new clients. Act as the primary point of contact for customer queries, technical assistance, and solution recommendations. Understand client needs, conduct requirement gathering sessions, and offer customized automation solutions. Ensure customer satisfaction by providing excellent pre-sales and post-sales support. 3. Sales Planning & Strategy Create and execute sales plans aligned with business objectives and revenue goals. Analyze the current market landscape, identify opportunities, and develop strategic action plans. Prepare proposals, quotations, and technical presentations tailored to client requirements. Develop competitive pricing strategies while maintaining profitability. Forecast sales performance and provide insights to management. 4. Technical Expertise & Solution Selling Work closely with the engineering and technical teams to provide automation-based solutions. Understand client processes and recommend the right combination of hardware, software, and services. Stay updated on the latest industrial automation trends, including IoT, robotics, AI-driven automation, and smart manufacturing. Present solutions to clients through technical demos, workshops, and product showcases. 5. Team Leadership & Coordination Manage and mentor the sales team to achieve individual and collective targets. Conduct regular training sessions to enhance the team’s product knowledge and sales skills. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, engineering, marketing, and after-sales support. Monitor team performance and provide guidance for continuous improvement. 6. Negotiation & Deal Closure Lead commercial negotiations and ensure favorable contract terms for the organization. Handle client objections effectively and close deals within defined timelines. Ensure timely payment collections and proper documentation of agreements. 7. Reporting & Analytics Maintain an updated sales pipeline and track progress using CRM tools. Prepare regular reports on leads, conversions, revenue, and market performance. Provide data-driven insights to management for decision-making and future planning.Required Skills & Competencies Technical Skills Strong knowledge of automation products, control systems, and industrial solutions. Understanding of PLC programming, SCADA architecture, HMI integration, robotics, and IoT. Familiarity with tools like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software (added advantage). Ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms to clients. Sales & Leadership Skills Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets. Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills. Strong problem-solving ability and client-focused mindset. Capability to lead, motivate, and guide a sales team effectively. Soft Skills High level of self-motivation and result orientation. Ability to work under pressure and manage tight deadlines. Strong interpersonal skills to build lasting client relationships.
