A security guard's primary responsibility is to protect people and property by monitoring premises, controlling access, and responding to incidents. They ensure safety through patrolling, surveillance, and enforcing rules, while also reporting suspicious activities and providing assistance to those in need. Key Responsibilities 1. Security & Safety Monitoring Patrol the premises regularly to maintain order and establish a visible presence. Monitor entry and exit points to prevent unauthorized access. Check ID cards, passes, or permits for staff, visitors, and contractors. 2. Surveillance Operate and monitor CCTV systems and alarm systems. Detect and report suspicious activities immediately to the supervisor or authorities. Ensure all security equipment is functioning properly. 3. Access Control Maintain visitor and employee entry records. Guide visitors to the appropriate department or personnel. Control traffic and parking in designated areas. 4. Emergency Response Act quickly in case of emergencies such as fire, accidents, or medical situations. Provide first aid or basic assistance until professional help arrives. Follow emergency protocols and evacuation plans. 5. Asset Protection Prevent theft, vandalism, and property damage. Secure doors, windows, and gates when not in use. Conduct routine inspections of security-sensitive areas. 6. Reporting & Documentation Maintain daily activity logs and incident reports. Report safety hazards or maintenance needs to management. Skills & Qualifications Prior experience as a security guard is preferred but not mandatory. Basic knowledge of security equipment and surveillance systems. Physically fit and alert. Strong communication and observation skills.
