Our journey so far:

Jupiter was founded in 2019 by Jitendra Gupta. Best known as Citrus Pay's founder, Jiten found himself wondering why personal finance experiences were not customer-centric when everything else like food ordering and entertainment were. That's how our journey began in 2019, with a simple, powerful idea : to create a modern, customer-centric experience that empowers individuals when it comes to their money.

From our humble beginnings, we've strived relentlessly to make managing money easier. In 2021 when we launched we had a waitlist with over 100,000 people eager to experience the world of Jupiter - and within 10 months we crossed 1 million users. Today, we have 2.7 million + happy users on Jupiter.

Our No-Penalty SIP and Daily SIP at Rs 10/- has helped scale our investments business and we have over 100,000 users investing on our platform to fulfill their money aspirations.

Role overview:

As Applied Science's Lead, you'll spearhead our AIML strategy and vision and will be responsible for architecting and developing sophisticated models that will form the backbone of our core financial products, driving innovation and enhancing customer experience. You will be a hands-on leader, guiding and mentoring a team of talented scientists, while also fostering close collaboration with cross-functional teams in product, engineering, and business to align AIML initiatives with overarching company objectives. Your expertise will be instrumental in identifying and leveraging data-driven insights that will optimize our product offerings, inform strategic business decisions, and ultimately propel our company's growth in the competitive financial services landscape.

Roles and responsibilities:

- Lead the AI roadmap end-to-end, balancing long-term research with short-term impact, and accounting for business objectives and market opportunities
- Build and deploy production-quality AIML models for data-driven insights and personalized financial recommendations
- Lead and mentor a team of scientists, fostering innovation and maintaining high standards
- Translate business problems into AI solutions that deliver measurable ROI
- Collaborate with business, product, engineering, design teams to ensure that ML isn't a side layer - it's woven into Jupiter's core.
- Communicate complex analyses and model outputs to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Write code, run experiments, validate hypotheses, and deploy models at scale - you'll own the lifecycle, not just hand off to engineers.
- Evaluate and implement appropriate AI technologies based on business needs.
- You along with the team will be working on problems spanning across multiple finance verticals. Example of a few are:
- Hyper-personalized engagement & recommendation systems
- Credit risk & alternative underwriting (new-to-credit, thin-file customers)
- Fraud & anomaly detection across payments, UPI, cards
- NLP & conversational AI (GPT-class models) for financial coaching & support
- Best contextual investment advisory

What is needed for this role :

- PhD or equivalent research experience in ML / Statistics / Applied Mathematics / NLP, ideally with published work in top conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ACL, KDD).
- 8+ years hands-on experience in ML, with at least 3+ years in fintech or consumer-scale products
- Strong background in modern AI stack (TensorFlow/PyTorch, cloud ML platforms, MLOps tools)
- Demonstrated experience applying AI/ML to solve real-world problems with quantifiable business impact
- Proven ability to view AI as a means to achieve business outcomes rather than technology for its own sake
- Deep knowledge of advanced machine learning techniques like deep learning, NLP, and time series forecasting
- Successful track record leading cross-functional AI projects from conception to production
- Understanding of areas directly relevant to us:
- Credit scoring models using alternative data
- Graph-based fraud detection & anomaly detection
- Deep learning for personalization (embeddings, sequence models)
- NLP/LLM systems for customer interactions & financial insights
