The people here at Apple don t just build products- they craft the kind of wonder that has revolutionized entire industries It s the diversity of those people and their ideas that encourages the innovation that runs through everything we do from amazing technology to industry-leading environmental efforts Imagine what you could do here Join Apple and help us leave the world better than we found it A job at Apple is unlike any other you ve had You will be challenged You will be inspired And you ll be proud At Apple phenomenal ideas have a way of becoming phenomenal products services and customer experiences very quickly Bring passion and dedication to your job and there s no telling what you could accomplish This position will give you the opportunity to bring our revolutionary products and amazing technology to the world by working closely with our global Apple teams to discover the root cause of product failures You will be given every resource you need to push the boundaries of what is possible to do the best work of your life DescriptionIn this role you will work in a lab environment on various sample preparation techniques and methods to deliver artefact free samples for further investigation to determine the root cause of failures You will be responsible for performing product tear downs cross sections planar polishing of samples de-processing of IC s and other components You will have the opportunity to be creative and use your engineering and scientific knowledge to figure out the root cause of product failures and recommend corrective actions as well as present the findings to global teams and executives Understand the failure background and design the investigation plan Determine the appropriate sample preparation methods based on type of material and sample condition Perform artefact free cross sectioning planar polishing delayering and de-processing on failed samples to expose the failure site for further investigation Report your findings and discuss or debate with your colleagues on the next steps conclusions and corrective actions Present the data in global meetings and or executive reviewsMinimum Qualifications Bachelors Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering Materials Science Metallurgy with 4 years of experience in sample preparation of materials Hands on experience in a broad range of sample preparation techniques such as cold hot mounting of samples grinding polishing iterative planer polishing delayering decapsulation Ion milling wet etch chemical de-processing Hands on experience in Optical Microscopy OM and Scanning Electron Microscopy SEM Good understanding of mechanical assemblies and drawings and ability to perceive device structure in 3D Fluent English highly effective communication skills including the ability to seek out direction listen to feedback as well as communicate complex findings in a concise and understandable form Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with Scanning Electron Microscopy SEM Focussed Ion Beam FIB Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy EDX EDS Electron Backscatter Diffraction EBSD Experience performing fractography of metals and brittle materials and performing micro-structural characterisation of metals alloys Experience performing basic mechanical testing of materials Tensile testing hardness testing etc Adaptability to fast-paced environment and work scope change to meet business needs strong aptitude for learning new techniques Ability to prioritise and juggle multiple high-priority tasks at the same time
