Job Summary
The Intensivist - ICU Registrar is a pivotal member of the multidisciplinary team, responsible for providing high-quality, specialized medical care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit. This role involves the diagnosis, management, and treatment of life-threatening conditions, working under the supervision of a senior intensivist or consultant. The registrar will participate in daily rounds, manage patient care plans, and perform a range of procedures essential to critical care medicine.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Management:
- Conduct daily patient assessments, formulate and implement comprehensive care plans, and monitor patient progress.
- Manage patients with complex and multi-system organ failure, including those requiring mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic support, and renal replacement therapy.
- Respond to medical emergencies and code calls within the hospital.
- Procedures:
- Perform a variety of critical care procedures, including but not limited to:
- Central venous catheter insertion
- Arterial line insertion
- Endotracheal intubation and ventilation management
- Bronchoscopy (as per credentialing)
- Chest drain insertion
- Lumbar puncture
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work effectively with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other specialists.
- Provide clear and concise handovers to colleagues during shift changes.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing updates on their condition and explaining treatment plans compassionately and understandably.
- Education and Training:
- Actively participate in departmental teaching sessions, morbidity and mortality conferences, and journal clubs.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff and medical students.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough medical records, including patient notes, orders, and discharge summaries, per hospital policies and legal requirements.
Qualifications And Experience
- Medical Degree: M.B.B.S. or MD/DNB in Intensivist - ICU.
- Postgraduate Training: Completion of a postgraduate residency program in Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or a related field.
- Experience: A minimum of 8 years of experience as a registrar or senior resident, with at least 6yrs years of dedicated experience in an ICU setting.
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is mandatory.
- Fellowship of the College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCC) or equivalent is highly desirable.
