Provide direct care for patients with severe and life-threatening conditions.
- Conduct thorough assessments, make accurate diagnoses, and create individualized treatment plans.
- Monitor and manage patients’ physiological functions, including respiratory, cardiovascular, and renal systems.
- Perform or oversee complex procedures, such as intubation, central line placement, and ventilator management.
- Work closely with surgeons, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other specialists to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Lead and participate in multidisciplinary rounds to discuss patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Communicate effectively with patients’ families, providing updates on condition, treatment options, and prognosis.
- Make rapid and informed decisions in high-pressure situations to stabilize and treat critically ill patients.
- Interpret diagnostic tests and clinical data to guide treatment strategies.
- Assess and manage potential complications and side effects of treatments.
- Adhere to best practices and protocols to ensure high standards of care and patient safety.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and audits to enhance ICU practices and outcomes.
- Document all patient interactions and interventions accurately and timely.
- Mentor and train medical students, residents, and fellows in critical care techniques and principles.
- Stay current with advancements in critical care medicine through continuing education and professional development.
- Contribute to the development of ICU policies and procedures.
- Assist in the management of ICU resources and staff scheduling.
