ABOUT SNEHA
A secular, Mumbai-based non-profit organisation, SNEHA believes that investing in women's health is
essential to building viable urban communities. SNEHA targets four large public health areas: Maternal and
Newborn Health, Child Health and Nutrition, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Prevention of Violence
against Women and Children.

Our approach is two-pronged: it recognises that in order to improve urban health standards, our initiatives
must target both care seekers and care providers. We work at the community level to empower women and
slum communities to be catalysts of change in their own right and collaborate with existing public health
systems and health care providers to create sustainable improvements in urban health.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Public System Partnership Program partners with seven municipal corporations namely Mumbai,

Thane, Kalyan Dombivali, MiraBhayander, Vasai Virar, Bhiwandi Nizampur and Ulhas Nagar and three

municipal councils Ambernath, Badlapur and Palghar covering Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The main

purpose is to impact Maternal and Child health indicators in urban slums.

SNEHA has partnered with the corporations and councils in initiating and sustaining a formal referral system

for mothers and newborns and focusing on improving the status of maternal and neonatal health services.

Along with the system strengthening component, community mobilization was also given high priority. With

the purpose of improving community participation Community Health Committees were formed in the

vulnerable locations and efforts are in process to convert these group into MAS.

THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning and implementing project activities in coordination with Program Coordinator (PC)and
field team

Building and sustaining effective rapport with different stakeholders including health facilities staff
and community volunteers.

Planning and organizing trainings of the health facility staff of different cadres (Community Health
Volunteers/ASHAs)

Supporting community organizers in implementing activities on ground

Assisting PCs in planning and coordination of trainings of health facility staff (Doctors, ANM/GNM
etc.)

Assisting PCs in arranging regional referral and action group meetings

Trouble shooting at the facility level and community level

Capacity building of the community organizers, Health committees and Community Health
Volunteer/ASHA

Planning and conducting regular meetings of the field staff

Networking and Advocacy meeting with the health care providers specially for provision of services
at the PHCs.

Conducting periodic visits to monitor service provision at the PHCs, Link workers and beneficiaries
to plan the strategies to improve the access to the services at PHCs.

Periodic visits to PHCs and hospitals to check referral data, documentation and training of the staff
for complete documentation.

Ensuring budget utilization as per the plan and submission of account related documents on time.

Supporting PC in establishing referral linkages between the health facilities.

Any other role assigned by the program Coordinator.

These positions report to the Program Coordinator, and will be based in the Municipal councils of
Ambernath/Badlapur/Palghar and also will support other corporations wherever necessary.

SUPERVISION & REPORTING

1. Supervising Day to day activities of Community Organizer
2. Ensuring proper data entry in the commcare forms, and supporting the COs in filling the

commcare forms.

3. Assisting PCs in collating data for periodic reports for funders, Municipal Corporation/Council’s
officials and for internal circulation

4. Maintaining documentation as per the program requirement.

PERSON SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Essential

Educational qualification: Graduate degree

At least 3 years’ work experience in the social sector, preferrable experience in working with
health sector and public health system.

Good command over English and Hindi/Marathi.
Flexibility in time management.

Readiness to travel to all the councils and corporations.

Interest in Maternal and Newborn health
Effective training and communication skills
Self-driven and an eagerness to take initiative

Enthusiasm for community engagement and networking
Sound values and work ethics


Desirable

Familiarity with services provided by health facilities
Experience in community mobilization.
Negotiation skills.
Experience working with the community volunteers and the health system
