The Team

The Grants & Contracts Management Team (GCS Team) supports program and operations staff in developing a grant or a contract. Grants and contracts are the primary means for advancing the foundation's strategic work. Contracts are also a crucial tool for our operations teams. The team focuses on:

- Understanding the goals for an investment (grant or contract).
- Resolving and spotting issues for resolution by Legal, Finance or others.
- Drafting and negotiating contracts.
- Helping new staff understand grant-making and providing First Investment Support.

Your Role

The Business Partner, Grants and Contracts Services will be responsible for relationship management for client teams within the foundation including early engagement to guide investment development and support complex investments. As a Business Partner they will work with a group of colleagues who support the foundation’s program teams. They will collaborate with colleagues in GCS, Legal, Finance and across the foundation to optimize systems, templates and processes related to grants and contracts.

The role will be based in New Delhi, India and report to Senior Manager, Grants and Contracts Services in Seattle.

What You’ll Do- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating grants and contracts (and amendments) with an emphasis on consistency, clarity and compliance with applicable laws, policies, processes and effective approaches.- Leading or facilitating negotiations between multiple parties within and outside the foundation while following playbook parameters and using templates established by Legal.- Engaging with internal clients, including establishing positive relationships, understanding their objectives, and completing their grant and contract investments in a smooth and efficient manner.- Providing deal team coordination for complex investments including early engagement to spot issues and trends and offering business advice regarding investment structure, history, payment structures, etc.- Mastering as well as providing training and guidance to colleagues on foundation policies, processes, systems and standard methodologies related to GCS.- Partnering with newly hired colleagues to ensure they get appropriate support, guidance and coaching while working on their first investments.- Supporting expenditure responsibility (ER) grants, including managing the pre-grant inquiry process, preparing ER grant agreements, reviewing ER reports for compliance, and supporting the tax function in preparation of ER schedules for the tax return.- Reviewing grant and contract proposals to identify and analyze business, legal, strategic, and reputational risks and determine which partners and decision-makers need to be involved in assessing and mitigating risks.- Coordinating with business partners and internal clients to develop plans, timelines, and corresponding activities to develop and complete investments.- Contributing to team-wide or foundation-wide projects and other continuous improvement efforts, including the optimization of foundation investment templates, processes and playbooks.

Your Experience- Bachelor's or other advanced degree or the equivalent in work experience is desirable.- Minimum 5 years of grant and/or contract management or relevant field experience is preferable.- Ability to thrive in a fast-past, constantly evolving work environment while maintaining a sense of humor.- Understanding of compliance concepts and ability to explain their significance to clients.- Familiarity with regulatory, tax or other compliance issues.- Strong advocate for the interests of the foundation - both internally and in negotiations with third parties.- Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills.- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to positively interact with all levels of an organization.- A passion for process, efficiency, continuous improvement and change management.- Developing good working relationships based on trust, transparency and collective success.- Ability to travel when needed.
