Duties
The Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV) Assistant performs a wide range of consular duties in accordance with the NIV unit's standard operating procedures and established visa processing guidelines. Incumbent performs data-entry, document review, correspondence, passport manifesting, visa printing, and other general office work. Customer service focus is essential in a visa unit that addresses applicants in person daily. The position requires a high-level of attention to detail to spot trends or potential issues and escalate those as necessary. The job holder is fully cross-trained to function in any role as required by visa demand and scheduling.

- Minimum of 2 years of work experience is required. (See Experience section)
- Fluent in English, Hindi & Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam language.(See Lang sec.)

**LANGUAGE**: Fluency in English (speaking, reading, and writing) is required. Fluency in Hindi & (Tamil OR Malayalam OR Telugu) (speaking) is required. This may be tested.
**Level 1 (Basic)**:Examples: Basic greetings, phrases, numbers and signs.
**Level 2 (Limited)**: Examples: Directions, simple questions.
**Level 3 (Good Working Knowledge)**:Examples: Conversations about familiar topics, complex documents.
**Level 4 (Fluent)**:Examples: Infer nuanced meaning from complex documents.
**Level 5 (Translator)**: Examples: Certified professional translator in this language.

For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
