Key Responsibilities:
An ED Facility Coder is responsible for accurately assigning medical codes to emergency department services provided by a hospital or healthcare facility. This role ensures proper billing and compliance with regulatory standards, directly impacting revenue cycle performance.
Code Assignment: Apply ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes to diagnoses and procedures based on patient charts and documentation.
Compliance: Ensure coding accuracy and adherence to official guidelines and payer-specific regulations.
Documentation Review: Analyze medical records for completeness and clarity; follow up with providers on discrepancies.
Auditing & Feedback: Conduct internal audits and provide feedback to improve coding quality and documentation practices.
Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, nurses, and billing teams to resolve coding issues and optimize reimbursement.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
CPC, CCS, or CIC certification (mandatory)
Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in ED facility coding preferred.
Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS
Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy
Excellent attention to detail and communication skills
