Key Responsibilities:
Review inpatient and observation medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes
Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with UHDDS, AHA coding clinics, and governmental regulations
Apply DRG grouping logic including MS-DRG, APR-DRG, and AP-DRG systems
Identify CC (Complication or Comorbidity) and MCC (Major Complication or Comorbidity) diagnoses for DRG optimization
Query physicians for documentation clarification when necessary
Maintain high coding accuracy (typically 95% or above) and meet productivity and turnaround time targets
Collaborate with Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) teams to enhance documentation quality
Participate in ongoing training and certification programs (e.g., , CCS, CIC)
Prepare monthly coding reports and follow up on accounts on hold
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Graduate Not Mandatory
CPC, CCS, or CIC certification (mandatory)
Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
Familiarity with hospital billing procedures and healthcare compliance regulations
Analytical skills to interpret complex medical records and documentation
