Ross Stores is seeking to hire an experienced Senior Merchandiser to oversee our Rugs category for our growing Gurgaon-based sourcing office.

As part of our team, this Rugs expert will provide expertise on all aspects of the Overseas Sourcing for the entire rugs category and act as a strategic partner to Ross' US Merchants and Product Sourcing teams. Identify and foster strong supplier relationships, work directly with factories to execute on the Merchants vision, develop product and manage the production process to deliver aesthetic, quality and value. Reports to the Merchandise Manager.


  • Ongoing travel to relevant sourcing regions, 2-4 days per visit. Weekly visits and ongoing visits to all vendor regions will be active part of this role.
  • Build a strong vendor base to support the Rugs merchandising strategies, and identify and foster potential new partners for Ross
  • Develop product options to address specific merchandising needs and priorities in Rugs
  • Serve as first point of contact for vendors to address production issues; support any questions on testing requirements
  • Collect and share current information on trends in raw materials, manufacturing, and product-specific intelligence (e.g., trending vendors, silhouettes, fabrications)
  • Identify capacity and country issues in region which could create market disruption, increase risk, or drive cost increases
  • Proactively identify product newness while in the factory.
  • Lead negotiations, cost, lead times, and minimum order quantities.
  • Cost engineer product across Rugs category to meet our customer value proposition
  • Oversee new supplier set- up, onboarding, and supporting vendors in accrediting them for pre-production approvals
  • Ensures metrics on Development, Adoption Rate, Manufacturing KPIs meet the needs of the business
  • And other related duties as assigned.


The qualified candidate will bring:


  • Deep Rugs category expertise (10+ years) working directly with factories, doing PD and production for Rugs.
  • Technical knowledge in all rugs (scatter rugs, bathmats, etc.), various constructions (flat woven, tufted, handwoven, machine woven, etc.), all materials.
  • Experience sourcing throughout Panipat, Bhadohi, Agra and Jaipur.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in high volume and complexity (high factory/SKU count).
  • Ideally experience with agent/buying house side, communicating directly with Buyers.
  • Ability to travel 2-4 days week to factories across these noted regions (will be in office when not traveling).
  • Detail-oriented with strong English communication skills.
  • Experience with US market preferred.
