Job Description:

Accountabilities

Develop and Implement Commercial Strategy:

Develop the strategy for Sales & Marketing, cascading vision, mission, and objectives to ensure alignment across Commercial, Business Development, and Marketing functions.

Direct the formulation and implementation of commercial policies, systems, processes, and controls to meet shipyards strategic business plan.


Lead Business Development Efforts:

Guide business development teams in planning, organizing, and executing strategies to win new projects, expand market share, and exceed targeted revenue goals.

Oversee the development of strategies to secure high-value projects and strategically position the company to navigate market trends and challenges.

Establish a marketing and communications system for promoting the shipyards services, including direct marketing, broker and agent appointments, exhibitions, events, and advertising initiatives.


Drive Revenue and Profit Optimization:

Lead commercial teams to implement cost control measures, optimize revenue generation, and meet targeted profit margins for the shipyard.

Guide business development and commercial teams in setting competitive price levels that align with market trends and achieve profitability objectives.

Monitor the financial performance of commercial activities, ensuring compliance with budgetary targets and proactive cost management.

Market Analysis and Competitive Positioning:

Lead the business development team in monitoring competitor activities, market trends, and industry changes to prepare the yard to meet market demands and evolving customer expectations.

Direct the team in adjusting pricing, positioning, and marketing approaches based on competitive intelligence and market analysis.


Oversee Commercial Negotiations & Contract Management:

Lead the commercial team through pricing and contractual negotiations to secure projects, finalize

contract terms, and settle invoices for major projects.

3 - Accountabilities

Ensure that all projects undergo thorough risk assessment, identifying potential risks and

requirements from the bidding stage.

Collaborate with the legal team to discuss critical contractual terms and risks for project

execution, taking full responsibility and authority over contract management.


Foster High-Performance Culture & Talent Development:

Lead people management initiatives by partnering with Human Resources on recruitment,

performance management, and employee development.

Mentor and develop a high-performing commercial team, providing feedback, formal and informal appraisal, and motivation to maximize departmental performance.

Champion continuous improvement in functional processes and practices, ensuring alignment with international best practices, evolving standards, and business requirements.


Ensure Compliance and Ethical Conduct:

Oversee adherence to legal, policy, and procedural compliance in all commercial operations, ensuring transparency, ethical conduct, and alignment with corporate governance standards.

Ensure that all management reports are timely, accurate, and meet international governance standards and policies. Continuous Improvement & Change Management:

Lead efforts to enhance functional systems, processes, and practices, adopting industry best practices and addressing changes in the business environment.

Proactively implement improvement initiatives to optimize service delivery, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Drive change initiatives across commercial functions, ensuring flexibility and adaptability to market demands and operational needs.



Reporting & Documentation:

Ensure timely and compliant completion of management reports, documenting performance metrics and adhering to standards for corporate governance.

Maintain comprehensive records of all commercial activities, contracts, and client interactions to support transparency and facilitate strategic planning.



4 Interactions and Working Relationships

Internal:

• CEO: Report regularly on commercial and marketing progress, revenue achievements, and strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with the shipyards broader business goals.

• Business Development Teams (Shipbuilding and Heavy Engineering): Guide and mentor in achieving BD objectives, securing high-value projects, and expanding market reach.

• Head Commercial (Estimation & Invoicing): Oversee alignment of commercial strategies with pricing, estimation, and invoicing practices to ensure profitability and compliance.

• Project Management & Legal Teams: Coordinate on contract negotiation, risk assessment, and execution to ensure alignment with project delivery and contractual obligations.

• Finance & Strategy Teams: Collaborate on budgeting, profitability analysis, and cost control to align financial goals with commercial activities.


External

• Clients & Stakeholders: Build and maintain strong client relationships, manage client inquiries, and ensure alignment with project terms and conditions.

• Suppliers, Brokers & Agents: Maintain partnerships for competitive sourcing and secure additional marketing reach through brokers and agents.

• Industry Peers & Market Analysts: Engage with industry stakeholders for market insights and trend analysis to stay ahead of competitor strategies and changes.
