Position Overview

As a Freelance Food Safety Auditor, you will conduct independent audits of food production, processing, and handling facilities to ensure compliance with established food safety standards and regulations. This role requires flexibility, expertise in food safety, and the ability to work independently. Freelance Food Safety Auditors play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and quality of food products for various clients.


Key Responsibilities

Conduct Independent Audits:

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled audits at various food production and processing facilities.
  • Assess compliance with food safety standards such as HACCP, ISO 22000, BRC, SQF, and relevant local regulations.

Evaluate Food Safety Systems:

  • Review and assess food safety management systems, including documentation, procedures, and records.
  • Verify the implementation and effectiveness of critical control points (CCPs) and preventive controls.

Identify and Report Non-Conformities:

  • Identify areas of non-compliance and potential food safety risks.
  • Document findings in detailed audit reports, highlighting any deviations from standards and providing a risk assessment.

Provide Recommendations:

  • Offer actionable recommendations to address identified non-conformities and enhance food safety practices.
  • Collaborate with facility management to develop corrective action plans and monitor their implementation.

Stay Updated:

  • Keep up to date with current food safety regulations, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and training to maintain expertise in the field.
  1. Client Communication:
  • Effectively communicate audit results and recommendations to clients.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive audit reports tailored to client needs and regulatory requirements.

Training and Support:

  • Educate and train facility staff on food safety standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements when needed.
  • Develop and deliver training programs and materials to support client compliance efforts.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of food safety auditing processes and tools.
  • Provide feedback to auditing bodies and participate in internal reviews and quality assurance programs.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Food Safety Auditor (CFSA), Certified HACCP Auditor (CHA), or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in food safety auditing, quality assurance, or food manufacturing.
  • Proven experience with food safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of food safety principles, HACCP, GMP, and relevant standards (e.g., ISO 22000, BRC, SQF).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to write clear and concise audit reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and auditing software.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel to various audit locations, sometimes on short notice.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Strong ethical standards and professional integrity.
  • Flexibility to adapt to different client needs and regulatory environments.

Work Environment

  • The role involves visiting various food production environments, which may include exposure to cold, heat, noise, and odors.
  • Auditors may need to wear protective clothing and adhere to strict hygiene practices while on-site.
  • Freelance auditors must be self-motivated and capable of managing their own schedules and workload.
