About the job :
- XYZ Ads is a global team operating from five locations - Bangalore (India), Mountain View (US), Montreal (Canada), Suwon (South Korea) and Warsaw (Poland).
- The team in Bangalore consists of Product Managers, Data scientists, Data engineers, Large scale backend engineers, Full-stack engineers, Service Reliability Engineers and Software Quality Engineers.
- The team is 200 members now.
- The Bangalore team owns the Supply Side Platform, which runs over 1 billion real-time auctions in a day to serve the most relevant Ads to users.
- SSP has real-time bidding and AI based solutions for Ad quality improvement, yield optimization and fraud detection and the Data Management Platform which combines over 100 TB of proprietary data with 3rd party & Advertiser's data per day to help advertisers target the right audience.
- In addition, the team also collaborates to build the Demand Side Platform which processes 1.
- 5M Ad requests / second and runs through all the campaigns available to serve the right Ad to the right user at the optimal bid price.
What You'll Do:
- When you operate at that scale and with such stringent latency requirements, every microsecond counts and you optimize every piece of the equation - from choosing the right languages, appropriate frameworks, apt protocols, a scalable, reliable, extensible architecture and a fitting infrastructure.
- Our cloud architect will make sure that all the pieces fit well together and the applications are developed with industry leading operating standards.
- We are on a journey to build new cloud native services and move existing services into cloud native environments, while adopting best-in-class practices around managing them.
- We are looking for someone who has experience working with cloud environments at scale, is well versed with various services offered by public cloud providers such as AWS and has experience moving existing workloads to the cloud.
- This role requires a blend of technical expertise, business acumen and excellent communications skills to influence and drive outomes working with a diverse set of stakeholders.
Your Main Responsibilities Would Include :
Cloud Strategy :
- Build a long term cloud strategy overseeing all the applications build across various geographies of XYZ ads.
- This could involve selecting appropriate cloud services, managing data synchronization, modelling and optimizing workloads for the cloud.
Design and Architecture :
- Design and architect the overall infrastructure and platform component deployments, ensuring it can scale efficiently, handle high traffic and meet the required performance.
Capacity Planning and Performance Management :
- Forecast traffic growth, plan capacity requirements and optimize performance across the entire infrastructure.
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity :
- Design and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans with clearly communicated RTOs and RPOs.
Security and Compliance :
- Ensure that the systems security and compliance adhere to industry standards and regulations.
- Conduct regular assessments and ensure that threats are addressed promptly.
Cost Optimization :
- Monitor and work with development teams to continuously optimize cloud cost, factoring is newer cloud vendor offerings.
Operational Efficiency :
- Implement automation and orchestrations tools to streamline deployment, scaling, management and alerting processes.
Identify and Advocate New Technology Adoption :
- Keep up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in cloud technologies, best practices and standards.
- Implement POC's where needed and champion adoption across the team.
Cross Team Collaboration :
- Collaborate with development, operational and product teams to understand requirements and validate that the architecture satisfies and aligns with business needs.
Required Skills And/Or Experience :
- Formal degree (BS or MS) in CS, Math or technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Previous relevant experience as a Software Engineering Architect or Cloud practitioner.
- A minimum of 14 years working as a software engineer/developer.
- 4+ years of working experience in an architect role (either primary or secondary)
- Expertise designing and/or operating globally distributed systems in production
- Expertise designing and/or operating big data systems
- Strong communication skills, especially the ability to discuss low-level engineering-facing details and high-level product-facing attributes
- Should be comfortable presenting and obtaining consensus using multiple methods: Written diagrams and text, in-person meetings, in-person and remote presentations, including occasional cross-office travel
- Hands-on experience with modern SDLC tooling including source control, reviewing, CI and CD.
- Experience in Ad tech (focus on server-side), data engineering and highly scalable web services is an added advantage

- The candidate should have an entrepreneurial mind-set, taking ownership in creating opportunities, aligning to the yearly plan but also being flexible to take advantage of new opportunities.
