Associate Director Human Resources

The Associate Director of Human Resources at Pema Wellness plays a key role in executing strategies to attract, retain, and develop diverse premiere talent. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this position provides leadership and direction to the human resources team, ensuring the effective implementation of HR practices, policies, and procedures.
The Associate Director of Human Resources is responsible for recruitment, total compensation, employee relations, training and development, compliance, Performance Management and strategic HR initiatives. This
role ensures compliance with applicable regulations and Standard Operating Procedures, delivering services that meet or exceed employee needs and enable business success.
Education and Experience Required
4-year bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related major; 10 years of experience in human resources, management operations, or a related professional area.
Preferred
● Advanced degree in Human Resources or a related field.
● Demonstrated experience in a luxury wellness or hospitality environment.
● Strong leadership and management skills.
● Experience with HR systems and data analytics.
Core Work Activities
1) Managing the Staffing and Recruiting Process:
● Develops and implements strategic recruitment plans to attract top talent.
● Ensures open positions are advertised in appropriate venues to attract a diverse candidate pool.
● Oversees the entire recruitment process, from job postings to onboarding.
● Works with the Employment Administrator to maintain contact with external recruitment sources (e.g., state job service, local colleges, recruiting agencies, community-based organizations).
● Networks with local organizations and peers to source candidates for current or future openings.
● Facilitates interdepartmental transfers and promotions within Pema Wellness.
● Oversees the selection and offer processes for hourly and management positions, ensuring proper procedures are followed.
2) Managing Legal and Compliance Practices:
● Ensures all recruitment and hiring practices comply with applicable laws and regulations.
● Conducts regular audits to ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures.
● Ensures drug screening and background checks are completed in accordance with Pema Wellness' Standard Operating Procedures.
● Develops and implements policies to ensure fair and consistent HR practices.
3) Managing Benefits Education and Administration:
● Manages Workers Compensation claims to ensure appropriate employee care and cost management.
● Educates employees on the benefits package and assists with benefits enrollment.
● Educates the HR team on various types of benefits available and eligibility requirements.
● Provides an overview of employee benefits to the management team, enabling them to educate their employees and answer routine questions.
● Ensures the department has the necessary resources to administer employee benefits.
4) Managing and Conducting Staff Development Activities:
● Develops and implements training programs to enhance employee skills and career development.
● Ensures performance appraisal processes are in place and effectively executed.
● Assists in identifying key drivers of employee satisfaction and supports managers in addressing issues with written plans and actions.
● Coaches managers on the progressive discipline process.
● Ensures development plans are in place for employees and tracks progress towards goal achievement.
5) Managing Employee Relations and Human Resources Communication:
● Utilizes an open door policy to address employee problems or concerns in a timely manner.
● Ensures effective employee communication channels are established and active.
● Analyzes accident trends and reports these trends to the management team.
● Monitors the work environment for signs of union organization.
● Develops strategies to improve employee engagement and satisfaction.
6) Strategic HR Initiatives:
● Collaborates with the General Manager to develop and implement HR strategies aligned with business goals.
● Leads initiatives to enhance organizational culture and employee experience.
● Analyzes HR metrics and data to inform strategic decisions and improve HR practices.
● Implements diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to foster a welcoming and inclusive workplace.
