Growing together.As a Director, Software Engineering you will oversee development efforts and architectural designs, guide project vision on United AI Studio (enterprise ML platform), be a product owner for development projects, and hire and develop engineering talent. In this role, you will manage a team to design, develop, test, and deploy scalable services. As a senior engineering leader, you will work with customers, other engineering teams and leaders – solving their use cases using playbooks from United AI Studio to drive the adoption of the platform across the organization.The engineering work is primarily done using cloud-based services like Azure, AWS, and GCP, and it is therefore essential that for our team to be successful, all team members should have had experience working on any of these cloud-based services.Primary Responsibilities:Trusted partner of the engineering leadership of an organizationExemplary system design, technical architecture awareness on building software with efficiency, stability, extensibility, and the ability to evolve over time. Simplify processes and technologiesLead engineering team for conceptualizing, designing, developing, and maintaining vital elements of UAIS PlatformRaise the bar on excellence in execution in terms of quality, timeliness, and scalabilityTake accountability for Key Engineering Metrics of the platform namely Availability, response time metrics, Time to Value and Time to buildDevelop and Evolve Engineering and product roadmap of UAISCollaborate with counterparts in other Geographical locations to ensure smooth execution of critical projects across the boardDrive talent transformation as per the needs of BusinessKey leadership responsibility in Optum AI to plan and develop talent, process, and capabilities within the organizationRecommends applicable technical patterns and solutions that are aligned with architectural guiding principles and standards through a regular cadence of delivery and continuous improvement initiativesDeep technical expertise to review designs and architecturesCollaborates closely with Product and Capability Architects on aligning inferred Solutions and Enterprise architecture to granular technical patterns and solutionsDrives technology modernization activities with architects and engineering teams including a shift to modular, data centric, open-source, and cloud-native technologiesGoverns technical debt and promotes balance with Technical Product Management in achieving architectural objectives through influencing of Product, Capability, and Engineering backlogsWorks closely with Technical Product Owners in plotting required Enablers to support business feature teams on the Architecture Runway, ensuring full lifecycle delivery through CI / CD pipelineImprove Engineering culture of the teamComply with the terms and conditions of the employment contract, company policies and procedures, and any and all directives (such as, but not limited to, transfer and/or re-assignment to different work locations, change in teams and/or work shifts, policies in regards to flexibility of work benefits and/or work environment, alternative work arrangements, and other decisions that may arise due to the changing business environment). The Company may adopt, vary or rescind these policies and directives in its absolute discretion and without any limitation (implied or otherwise) on its ability to do soRequired Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field12+ years of software engineering experience leading teams8+ years of experience working with an Agile development methodology5+ years of experience in working in cloud-enabled solutions in Azure or AWSSolid expertise in cloud security and ability to built highly secure enterprise platforms5+ years working in AI/ML engineering domain and solid understanding of MLOpsExperience working in the healthcare sectorDeep computer science fundamentals including Algorithms, Data Structures, and practical applications of these to build software systemsProven high proficiency of both written and verbal English communicationProven proponent of metrics & Engineering best practices, and demonstrable track record of addressing engineering efficiency bottlenecksProven success in growing and managing geographically distributed teams using successful recruiting, employee development, and retentionProven solid project planning and execution skills including estimating, scheduling, and executing on committed schedulesAt UnitedHealth Group, our mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone.
