About the job In this key leadership role, you’ll bring your expertise in contemporary health and safety, people leadership and management, and a strong understanding of higher education environments to advance the delivery of contemporary customer focused health and safety support and services across Deakin University. Reporting to the Director, Health and Safety, and operating through a leader-practitioner approach, you will provide expert advice, drive strategy and planning, and lead a high-performing team dedicated to delivering exceptional services and innovative solutions. As the Senior Manager, Health and Safety, you will: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of skilled health and safety professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment that delivers expert, customer focused partnering support and services for all areas of the University. Provide strategic leadership and direction of the University’s health and safety function, ensuring robust processes that deliver compliant, practical and customer focused outcomes. Oversee the effective application, management and assurance of the University’s Health and Safety management system and frameworks, including risk assessment and hazard management, reporting and investigations. Partner with senior leaders to embed health and safety into operational and strategic decision-making, and act as a trusted expert providing authoritative guidance on complex health and safety matters, emerging risks, legislation, standards and best practices. Establish and maintain robust governance and reporting mechanisms , including internal and external reporting, inspections, audits and performance metrics.
