Job Summary:
The Air Freight Manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for the sustainable growth of the air freight product, managing the procurement process, ensuring efficient customer service operations, and providing leadership and support to the air freight team. The role involves close collaboration with sales, procurement, and operations teams to achieve financial targets, enhance customer satisfaction, and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities and Activities:
Commercial and P&L:
Develop long-term air freight strategies for sustainable growth.
Meet or exceed financial and volume budget targets for the air product year-on-year.
Grow air freight volume within the India region.
Promote air freight offerings and collaborate with the sales department and network offices to close new business deals.
Accompany sales teams on customer visits to support business development.
Provide market intelligence to assist sales in penetrating new markets.
Offer monthly air market updates to customers and internal teams.
Collaborate with pricing and air leadership teams on large tenders and RFQs.
Procurement:
Work closely with Southeast Asia (SEA) and HQ Regional Procurement teams for strategic carrier procurement.
Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, co-loaders, and other vendors at regional and local levels.
Establish a robust procurement strategy for both import and export products to support business growth.
Customer Service Operation:
Ensure operations are executed timely through Cargowise / Prolink systems.
Ensure jobs are closed with timely billing to clients and POs are costed and accrued based on existing KPIs.
Achieve zero-defect start-ups for new business implementations.
Provide operational solutions for customer projects or critical shipments.
Drive continuous service improvement efforts with air carriers.
Align departmental KPIs with HQ standards based on KST (Key Service Targets).
Improve the station’s air scorecard performance.
Resolve customer complaints and provide timely solutions.
General Administration:
Provide guidance and support to staff.
Plan resources and set up optimal operational processes to increase productivity.
Ensure air freight personnel are knowledgeable through training, motivation, counselling, and performance management.
Train salespeople on effectively selling air freight products.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
Proven experience in air freight management within the logistics and freight forwarding industry.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and manage high-performing teams.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills.
Proficient in using logistics management software (e.g., Cargowise, Prolink).
Strong network within the air freight industry, including relationships with carriers and vendors.
