Vice President, Discovery Chemistry


Lead a team of 1,500+ professionals delivering top-tier project outcomes for diverse clients. Expertise spans synthetic organic, medicinal, and analytical chemistry, including specialized platforms like peptide synthesis and targeted protein degraders.


Ensure scientific and operational excellence, enhance key performance indicators, and uphold Safety, Quality, Integrity, and Compliance. Develop a 5-year business plan to achieve a sales CAGR of over 22% and foster a collaborative, growth-oriented culture.


Report to the Senior Vice President of Discovery Services and collaborate with leaders in Discovery Biology, Safety Assessment, and Computational Sciences to drive integrated preclinical therapeutic discovery and development.


Responsibilities :

  • Hold P&L responsibility for Discovery Chemistry operating unit performance.
  • Lead over 1,000 scientists in synthetic organic, medicinal, and analytical chemistry across campuses in Bangalore and Hyderabad, India.
  • Ensure scientific and operational excellence with a focus on continuous improvement and core values of Safety, Quality, Integrity, and Compliance.
  • Maintain efficient operational structure and processes for proposal and report writing.
  • Build collaborative client relationships, acting as a leading spokesperson.
  • Coordinate with EHSS, IT, Quality, Finance, and Commercial teams to ensure safety, data integrity, and financial planning.
  • Work with Project Management and HR teams to define best practices, manage projects, and promote employee development.
  • Lead safety initiatives and foster a culture of EHSS and quality.
  • Develop a talent pipeline and drive engagement and retention through succession planning and competency development.
  • Set leadership standards and provide mentorship and career development opportunities for scientists.


Requirements :

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry
  • 15-20 years of experience in CDMO, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology research organisations; CRO experience preferred.
  • Proven track record in leading large teams and identifying leadership talent.
  • Experience in organisational design to maximise impact and fit talent to roles.
  • Leadership experience in a CRO environment
  • Skilled in managing multi-disciplinary discovery programs
  • Background in business development, alliance management, client relationship management, or customer service is a plus.
  • An exceptional chemist turned into an exceptional leader
  • Strong business acumen with successful P&L management in growing organizations.
  • Understands the CRO marketplace from both client and competitive perspectives.
