In particular, the Section is responsible for: Providing intelligence services for the IDN in conjunction with the Facilities and Detainee Service Provider Ensuring the appropriate placement of detainees across the IDN, utilising a risk-based, intelligence-led approach to detainee placement Undertaking operational and strategic planning as it relates to detainee placements and detention capacity Building and maintaining collaborative partnerships with external agencies. Within National Detention Operations, the Detention Intelligence team develops operational and tactical intelligence assessments on threats to the safety, security and good order of the IDN. Please visit our website for more information about the Department of Home Affairs or Australian Border Force Our ideal candidate We are looking for highly motivated, proactive, curious and strategically minded intelligence practitioners from a variety of backgrounds, with relevant skills and experience, who: Have well-developed verbal and written communication skills who can structure and draft complex intelligence products with minimal editing and guidance Can apply sustained focus on solving complex problems and deliver high quality advice Are inquisitive, critical and strategic thinkers who can connect the dots and apply innovative methods to analyse information and explain the 'so what' Show judgment, intelligence, common sense, and demonstrate a high level of attention to detail Enjoy collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and can build partnerships and negotiate across a wide variety of stakeholders Display a high level of resilience when faced with confronting information Display integrity, high ethical standards and maintain confidentiality and discretion within a high-risk environment Are quick learners, capable of understanding new information and proactively manage their own development and continuous improvement People with prior experience and training in intelligence tradecraft will be highly regarded for these roles. Duties and responsibilities Proactively engage with stakeholders to understand their intelligence requirements and shape the delivery of intelligence assessments and products to meet their specific needs. Evaluate and analyse data across a range of intelligence indices, including information collected by officers Ensure the delivery of timely and quality intelligence products for dissemination to appropriate stakeholders Undertake operational and tactical intelligence assessments to identify risks relating detainee placements and inform operational activities/planning Apply critical and strategic thinking to evaluate and integrate multiple data sources, delivering predictive assessments relevant to the operational threat environment Detect patterns, networks, relationships and anomalies in data using intelligence tradecraft, analytical tools and techniques Assist in the development of intelligence planning, including collection requirements and plans Evaluate feedback on intelligence products and work directly with stakeholders to address gaps and improve delivery of timely and effective products. Additional information Designated positions with Detention Operations require the occupant to meet all Border Force Officer essential qualifications. If successful for one of these positions, you will be required to: Be operationally ready (by meeting and sustaining the medical, fitness and psychometric requirements necessary for a role) Be sworn (through subscribing the ABF oath or affirmation) Be uniformed (unless their position requires them to wear business attire) Maintain essential and role-specific qualifications such as technical qualifications Actively participate in career management (ABF postings and deployments) Be able to be deployed at short notice across a range of operational domains, including inter and intrastate travel. Note: Positions within Detention Intelligence will largely be undertaken during business hours, however may require overtime and/or on-call duties. Some positions may attract an immigration detention centre allowance of $12,871 per annum.
