These include numerous Australian Government Departments, New Zealand Government Departments, and other Commonwealth agencies. The CSD Section is a multidisciplinary team comprised of resources across numerous ICT disciplines, including server, network, compute, storage, cryptographic, deployable, and desktop solutions. It also operates the ASNService Desk, network and close support services and manages the Department's Secret and Top Secret COMSEC Accounts. CSD supports a range of critical government capabilities, including counter terrorism initiatives, law enforcement activities, Home Affairs maritime platforms, and national crisis response, such as the continuation of Executive Government during a national emergency or disaster. Please visit our website for more information about the Department of Home Affairs or Australian Border Force Our ideal candidate The Systems Engineer assures availability of the platform through: Providing leadership and management of a team of technical specialists and working collaboratively with a wide variety of internal and external platform stakeholders With proven high level of technical ICT skill set, participating hands-on in managing services and operation of Windows, RedHat Linux and VMware based technology stacks and, where directed, support to relevant projects Management of workload, guidance and mentoring of CSD Section staff, managing their priorities across business as usual and project activities, and professional development Representing the section, provision of technical advice, and enhancing the perception. Duties and responsibilities Manages and assures the availability, capacity and performance of Windows, RedHat Linux and VMware infrastructure and applications Leads, contributes and participates in the resolution of platform incidents and problems, management of platform assets and changes, and continuous service improvement in accordance with Home affairs ITSM practice and processes Leads or supports platform knowledge management within CSD, Technology Operations and Support Branch (TOSB) and Enterprise Technology Services, including but not limited to preparing and improving knowledge articles, standard operating procedures and other technical documentation relevant to platform operations)  Develops and manages platform stakeholder relationships to enable effective collaboration and service operations within CSD, TOSB, and Enterprise Technology Services and in co-operation with ICT vendors  Managing a team of highly skilled ICT technical staff, accountable for the delivery of business as usual (BAU) and project outcomes in the Platforms ICT infrastructure area, while providing advice, managing and supporting a hybrid APS/contractor highly skilled ICT Platforms technical team. Additional information This position requires an individual with sound experience in providing hands-on support to ICT systems, including, but not limited to, VMware, Windows and RedHat environments, and also with a proven supervisor / team leadership experience leading highly technical skilled teams to deliver an efficient and customer focused client and ICT platform system support service.
