Role Summary
We are seeking an Oracle Database Engineer (L1) to join our Database Engineering team. In this role, you will perform standardized operations, health checks, and first-level troubleshooting for Oracle databases on Exadata platforms with GoldenGate replication. You will follow runbooks, ensure system stability, escalate incidents effectively, and contribute to process documentation and improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Monitoring
- Run daily health checks on Oracle (12c/19c+) environments and Exadata components (ASM, cellsrv, storage).
- Monitor Oracle GoldenGate processes, check replication lag, and perform basic restarts as per SOPs.
- Review alerts, validate backups, and track performance baselines (AWR/ASH).
Backups, Patching & Changes
- Execute RMAN backup/restore activities and confirm successful completion.
- Apply standard database patches and updates during maintenance windows.
- Perform routine changes (user/role creation, privileges, quotas) under change control.
Incident Response & Escalation
- Triage alarms, gather diagnostics (AWR reports, alert logs, trace files), and restore services where possible.
- Escalate incidents to L2/L3 with clear context, timelines, and impact summaries.
- Contribute to post-incident reviews.
Security & Compliance
- Enforce security policies, including least-privilege access and credential rotation.
- Maintain accurate CMDB and inventory records.
Documentation & Collaboration
- Update runbooks, knowledge articles, and database topology diagrams.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and network teams.
- Provide concise customer-facing updates when required.
Must-Have Qualifications
- ~1 year of hands-on Oracle DBA experience (12c/19c+) with user/admin tasks, schema management, and privilege handling.
- Basic understanding of Exadata (ASM, storage cells, smart scan concepts) and Linux administration.
- Working knowledge of Oracle GoldenGate fundamentals (process roles, trail files, start/stop, lag checks).
- Familiarity with RMAN, Oracle Enterprise Manager/Cloud Control, and SQL*Plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to work in rotational shifts (247 support) and adhere to incident/change management processes.
