Director of Engineering – Data Retention (Indexing & Search Team)

Dive into the forefront of innovation with our Data Retention engineering team, take a leading role in defining Data Archiving and Search products and features. The purpose of the team is to design and implement the next generation of Mimecast products leveraging the latest technologies and tooling available in AWS.

What You’ll Do

As an Engineering Director, you will be passionate about building products that keep our customers safe. You will be managing and building strong teams of software engineers and managers that focus on delivering our next generation of data archiving and search products. While we work on making a resilient and scalable solution, you will also be required to handle incidents and, most importantly, protect customers by minimising impacts on them by maintaining effective and swift communication and providing quick solutions in high pressure situations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Build state of the art products and services that enable our customers to protect their organisations and especially their data.
  • Maintain and evolve the existing infrastructure.
  • Build and lead strong engineering and operation teams.
  • Lead the teams to ensure that they deliver on time and with a sense of urgency.
  • Proactively drive the vision for Engineering and archiving solutions
  • Establish processes and procedures to improve quality, efficacy, efficiency, and visibility.
  • Collaborate with other departments across the organisation to ensure that we provide the best possible experience and services to our customers.
  • Be able to speak in technical terms to the architecture, services and domains owned within the team and when representing outside of the team.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Tenured experience as an Engineering Leader or similar position.
  • Experience delivering data archiving products and services.
  • Track record of delivering large-scale & multi content-type search and indexing applications
  • Current or previous experience working with indexing and search technologies (Lucence, OpenSearch, Elasticsearch Solr)
  • Experience using AI & ML to automate data access and retrieval.
  • Strong technical background in software engineering, with hands-on experience in designing and developing backend services at scale within AWS.
  • Experience in building and scaling high-performing engineering teams, including recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing talent development.
  • Experience in establishing and enforcing coding standards, best practices, and quality assurance processes to maintain high-quality software development.
  • Proven track record delivering multiple complex projects.
  • Experience working with Scrum or other agile methodologies.
  • A sense of urgency and ownership over the product
  • Strong communication skills with experience in effectively communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
