Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced and strategic Category Head to lead our food product category. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the food industry, strong category management experience, and the ability to drive growth through innovation and strategic planning. This role is pivotal in managing the end-to-end category process, from product selection to pricing, while ensuring profitability and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Category Strategy & Planning:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive category strategy for food products, aligning with the company's overall business objectives.
- Conduct market research and analysis to understand consumer trends, preferences, and competitor activities.
- Identify growth opportunities within the category, including new product development and market expansion.
Product Portfolio Management:
- Manage the food product portfolio, including the introduction of new products, SKU rationalization, and lifecycle management.
- Ensure a balanced product mix that meets customer needs and drives category growth.
- Collaborate with R&D and procurement teams to innovate and source high-quality products.
Vendor & Supplier Management:
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors in the food industry.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and supply agreements to secure the best terms for the company.
- Monitor supplier performance, ensuring adherence to quality standards, delivery timelines, and sustainability practices.
Pricing & Promotion:
- Develop and execute pricing strategies that balance competitiveness with profitability.
- Plan and implement promotional activities, working closely with the sales and marketing teams to maximize impact.
- Analyze the effectiveness of pricing and promotional strategies, making adjustments as necessary.
Sales & Performance Monitoring:
- Track and analyze category performance, including sales trends, market share, and profitability.
- Prepare regular reports and present insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Adjust strategies based on performance data to ensure continuous category growth.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of category managers and analysts, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Set performance goals, provide coaching, and conduct regular performance evaluations.
- Identify training needs and facilitate professional development opportunities for team members.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with supply chain, marketing, sales, and finance teams to ensure cohesive category management.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute category-specific marketing campaigns.
- Partner with the supply chain team to ensure product availability and optimal inventory levels.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Food Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- 6-10 years of experience in category management, specifically within the food industry.
- Strong knowledge of food products, consumer trends, and market dynamics.
- Proven experience in product portfolio management, pricing strategy, and promotional planning.
- Excellent negotiation skills and experience in vendor management within the food sector.
- Strong leadership abilities, with experience managing and developing teams.
- Proficient in data analysis and financial acumen, with the ability to interpret complex data and make strategic decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
