All while staying committed to our member first ethos as a proud Industry Fund.  About the Role As a Claims Review Specialist , you will play a critical role in ensuring fair and compliant outcomes for our members and beneficiaries. As part of the Trustee Review team, you’ll be the technical expert for death claims , applying your knowledge of legislation, trust deeds, and insurance policies to deliver decisions that meet regulatory standards and uphold our commitment to member care. This role combines analytical decision-making with empathetic communication and stakeholder collaboration, contributing to governance excellence and a positive member experience. Key Responsibilities: Review and determine death claims in line with SIS legislation, trust deed, insurance policies, and trustee delegation frameworks. Prepare and present declined claims for review at the Denied Review Committee and participate in complex case discussions. Assess beneficiary information to ensure accurate and compliant distribution of death benefits . Conduct complex file reviews and provide technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders. Build and maintain strong relationships with insurers, administrators, and internal teams to support claim resolution. Drive quality assurance, compliance, and process improvements to enhance member experience and operational efficiency.  About You You’re an experienced claims professional with a strong technical background in death claims assessment and a passion for delivering fair, compliant outcomes for members and beneficiaries. You combine analytical expertise with empathy, ensuring every decision is well-reasoned and clearly communicated. Your ability to navigate complex legislation, collaborate with stakeholders, and maintain attention to detail sets you apart. You will bring: Tertiary qualification in business, commerce, finance, or related discipline; RG146 certification highly regarded . Proven experience in death claims assessment , including accurate interpretation of insurance policy definitions. Industry experience with group life arrangements (insurer or superannuation fund). Detailed understanding of superannuation regulatory requirements, including compliance with the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993 (Cth) and claims handling obligations. Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills , with a thorough investigative approach. Ability to work independently and collaboratively , adapting to changing circumstances. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships and champion Cbus values. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook , and strong digital literacy.
