The BIW Fixture Design Engineer is responsible for designing welding and assembly fixtures used in the Body-in-White (BIW) stage of automotive manufacturing. This includes concept development, 3D modeling, and 2D detailing of fixtures for robotic and manual welding processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop concepts, 3D finish, and 2D detailing of BIW welding fixtures
  • Design fixtures for Geo stations, Re-spot stations, and Grippers
  • Perform basic engineering calculations to verify design integrity
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and automation teams to ensure fixture feasibility
  • Create and manage BOMs, GD&T, and tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Ensure designs meet ergonomic, safety, and quality standards
  • Support prototype development and shop floor trials
  • Maintain documentation and participate in design reviews

Qualifications

  • Diploma/B.E. in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Proficiency in CAD tools like CATIA V5, Siemens NX, or SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of BIW fixture standards (GM, BMW, VW, etc.)
  • Familiarity with robotic welding cells and automation systems
