Inviting applications for the role of Assistant Vice President, Lifestyle and Fashion Merchandising
In this role, the incumbent should have both consulting depth and core fashion retail experience to spearhead our fashion and apparel offerings. The incumbent combines deep consulting experience at a top firm with substantial hands-on experience in core fashion retail/brand operations, and will be instrumental in shaping our growth strategy, leading engagements, and delivering high-value transformation for our clients. In this role, the incumbent will define strategic offerings, lead large-scale transformation engagements, nurture key client relationships, and ensure our solutions deliver measurable business impact for major apparel, accessories, and footwear brands. If you combine strong consulting chops with hands-on fashion operations, you'll be the bridge between business vision and execution across merchandising, sourcing, customer experience, and omnichannel retail.
Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end consulting engagements with fashion / retail clients: strategy definition, execution of transformation programs (digital commerce, merchandising, supply chain, customer experience).
  • Develop and articulate a fashion practice roadmap: define service offerings, POVs, competitive positioning, go-to-market strategy, and scale business growth in this vertical.
  • Develop and deliver thought leadership and transformation frameworks in the retail and fashion space.
  • Own client relationships in the fashion sector: identify and win new accounts, grow existing ones, and ensure repeat engagements through quality delivery and brand credibility.
  • Collaborate with internal teams—product, technology, operations, analytics—to design solutions that are both innovative and implementable in real retail settings.
  • Monitor fashion / retail trends, consumer behaviour, marketplace shifts (including sustainability, direct-to-consumer, digital enablement) and translate insights into client solutions and internal innovation

Qualifications we seek in you
Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional experience, with a strong track record in consulting with a leading firm, and hands-on operational experience in fashion retail / brand roles.
  • Holds a degree from NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology), NID (National Institute of Design), or any other equivalent recognized institute in fashion, design, or apparel studies
  • Demonstrated success leading large scale transformation programs in fashion: merchandising, pricing, retail operations, or related areas.
  • Deep domain knowledge of the fashion industry including but not limited to trend forecasting, assortment planning, vendor & sourcing networks, margin structuring, retail tech & operations.
  • Strong leadership & stakeholder management skills; experience operating across cross-functional teams and multiple geographies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to influence senior clients and stakeholders across business functions
  • Strategic thinking, and business development skills; able to drive P&L, service offerings, and win client confidence.

Preferred Qualifications/ Skills

  • MBA or advanced degree in Retail Management, Business Strategy, Fashion Merchandising or related field
  • Consulting experience preferably in Big 4 or a global organization
  • Prior experience managing digital transformation for fashion brands

  • Exposure to international markets — understanding cross-border fashion retail, market entry strategies, cultural & regulatory differences
  • Strong network in the fashion / retail industry, including vendors, brands, suppliers, and marketplaces.
  • Familiarity with retail technology & tools — assortment planning, PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), ERP systems, retail analytics & consumer data tools
  • Experience building, scaling, or running practices / service lines within a consulting environment (P&L responsibility, hiring / team building)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to influence senior clients and stakeholders across business functions
