Job Summary


The Insurance Risk Advisory practice helps clients to identify, measure, prioritize, manage, and monitor exposures to insurable loss. We consult on the strategic retention and transfer of risk, including the use of captives, self-insurance, and insurance policies. Sustainable Energy (e.g., solar, wind, battery storage, hydrogen, etc) and Real Estate are the two core verticals of focus. In these areas, BDO acts as the independent insurance advisor and outsourced risk manager.


Primary areas of practice focus include:

  • Independent Insurance Advisor for sustainable energy
  • Insurance program diagnostics with gap assessments
  • Captive feasibility and utilization services
  • Third party risk assessments
  • Insurance risk management outsourcing and co-sourcing
  • Casualty claims program management
  • Insurance vendor management


The Director will be responsible for technical engagement delivery and collaborating with the BDO USA and RISE teams

Job Duties

The Director of Insurance Risk Advisory will play a pivotal role in our practice, helping clients identify, measure, prioritize, manage, and monitor exposures to insurable loss. This position requires a deep understanding of the US, European, and Bermuda insurance markets and coverage. The Director will consult on the strategic retention and transfer of risk, including the use of captives, self-insurance, and insurance policies. Our core verticals of focus are Sustainable Energy (e.g., solar, wind, battery storage, hydrogen, etc.) and Real Estate, where BDO acts as the independent insurance advisor and outsourced risk manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an Independent Insurance Advisor for sustainable energy and real estate sectors.
  • Conduct comprehensive insurance program diagnostics with gap assessments.
  • Provide captive feasibility and utilization services.
  • Perform third-party risk assessments.
  • Manage insurance risk management outsourcing and co-sourcing.
  • Oversee casualty claims program management.
  • Handle insurance vendor management.
  • Deliver technical engagement and collaborate with BDO USA and RISE teams.
  • Analyze insurance risk scenarios and develop recommendations for appropriate types and amounts of insurance to mitigate those risks.
