We are seeking an experienced Director of Business Development to drive our growth strategy and expand our market presence.
Position Overview
The Director of Business Development will play a crucial role in identifying and securing new business opportunities, particularly within the packaging industry. This position requires a strategic thinker with an established network in FMCG, Lubricants, and Chemicals sectors. The ideal candidate will leverage their industry connections to develop partnerships that advance Banyan Nation's mission of creating sustainable recycling solutions. Additionally, this leader will manage a team of business development professionals and key account managers to ensure cohesive strategy execution and excellent client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive business development strategies to drive growth in key target markets
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of business development professionals and key account managers
- Set clear performance objectives, conduct regular reviews, and provide ongoing coaching to team members
- Build and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers in the packaging industry, particularly within FMCG, Lubricants, and Chemicals sectors
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities through networking, industry events, and direct outreach
- Negotiate and structure strategic partnerships and long-term supply agreements
- Work closely with the technical team to understand product capabilities and communicate value propositions to potential clients
- Stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes affecting recycled materials in packaging
- Collaborate with marketing to develop compelling materials that showcase our solutions and sustainability benefits
- Represent Banyan Nation at industry conferences, trade shows, and sustainability forums
- Prepare and deliver presentations to prospective clients and partners
- Develop detailed business cases and ROI analyses for potential opportunities
- Meet or exceed revenue growth targets and other KPIs
- Provide regular reporting on pipeline development, sales forecasts, and market intelligence
- Ensure effective account management through client satisfaction monitoring and relationship development
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred
- 15+ years of business development, sales, or relevant experience in the packaging or recycling industry
- Proven track record of securing high-value contracts and partnerships
- Extensive network of established relationships in the packaging industry, particularly with decision-makers in FMCG, Lubricants, and Chemicals sectors
- 3+ years of experience managing and developing sales or business development teams
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and align team members toward common goals
- Strong understanding of sustainable packaging trends, circular economy principles, and ESG considerations
- Experience with recycled content regulations and sustainability initiatives in major markets
- Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills
- Strategic thinking with the ability to identify and capitalize on market opportunities
- Results-driven with a track record of meeting or exceeding targets
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed (approximately 30-40%)
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in plastic recycling, packaging materials, or related industries
- Knowledge of plastic manufacturing processes and quality requirements
- Understanding of technical specifications for recycled plastics in various applications
- Experience with sustainability certifications and compliance requirements
- Familiarity with life cycle assessments and environmental impact analyses
- Experience developing business in emerging markets

Location
This position will be based in either Mumbai or Hyderabad, India. Regular travel to client sites and industry events will be required.
