Cyber & Infrastructure Security | Critical Infrastructure Risk & Reg | Auscheck | Background Checking & Credential Services

The Background Checking and Credential Services (BCCS) section is the operational hub of AusCheck, including:

  • Issuing Body (IB) team
  • Background Checking (BC) team.

The IB team conducts identity verification interviews for the ASIC and MSIC schemes, as well as manual reviews for all schemes administered by AusCheck, to ensure all information and documentation provided by applicants is accurate and correct before details of the applicant are lodged with the BC team. The IB team also prints and dispatches ASICs and MSICs for eligible applicants.

The BC team facilitate background checks for applicants of schemes administered by AusCheck, the team makes an assessment to determine if the offences are security relevant offences (SRO) (the criteria for SROs vary for each scheme).

Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team within the Background Checking and Credential Services section and coordinate workflow, resources, tasks and priorities
  • Oversee and manage the operational functions of the section such as:
    • Allocation of work amongst the team and quality assurance of applications and assessments
    • Conducting virtual and in-person identity verification interviews
    • Processing application submissions across the various AusCheck schemes
    • Assessment of criminal histories against security-relevant offences
    • Work closely with checking partners to update applications and remediate any issues which may delay the background checking assessment 
    • Escalate application and assessment issues when required through established processes and channels
    • Production and distribution of security identification cards
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, including create high-level written material using templates to support administrative decisions
  • Responsible to lead a team, allocate work, resources, tasks, and set work area priorities, develop strategies and evaluate business outcomes
  • Have accountability for tasks and decisions and supports less experienced employees in achieving their goals through the provision of guidance and quality assurance.

  • Must be able to obtain and hold aviation and maritime security identification cards (ASIC and MSIC)
  • Must have a myID account registered to 'standard' identity strength or higher (requires personal smart phone device)
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to work with staff of all levels
  • Well-developed time management and prioritisation skills.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance, and:
 

  • ABF Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
  • Home Affairs Workers will also be required to obtain and maintain an Onboarding Check.
     

In certain circumstances, an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC) may be required in addition to, or in lieu of, an Onboarding Check, which will be determined by the delegate as necessary.
