About the Role :

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Azure PostgreSQL Database Administrator to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management, administration, and optimization of our Azure PostgreSQL Flex Server environments. You will play a critical role in ensuring data security, implementing robust backup and disaster recovery strategies, and automating database deployments.

Primary Skill Set : Azure PostgreSQL Database Administrator :

As an Azure PostgreSQL Database Administrator, your core responsibilities will include :

- Managing and Administrating Azure PostgreSQL (Flex Server in Azure) : Overseeing the day-to-day operations, configuration, and maintenance of Azure PostgreSQL instances.

- Maintaining Data Security in Azure : Implementing and enforcing security best practices to protect sensitive data within our Azure PostgreSQL environments.

- Implementing Backup and Disaster Recovery Strategy with Automation : Designing, implementing, and automating comprehensive backup and disaster recovery solutions for PostgreSQL databases, including leveraging Azure geo-redundant backups.

- Automating DB Deployment and Closely Working with L3 Team : Developing and implementing automated database deployment processes and collaborating effectively with the L3 support team.

- SQL Performance Tuning and PostgreSQL Server Tuning : Identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks through advanced SQL query optimization and PostgreSQL server tuning techniques.

- Strong Knowledge about Indexing and Rebuild Index : Expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining effective indexing strategies, including index rebuilding.

- Implementing Monitoring for PostgreSQL using Azure Metrics and Azure Functions : Setting up and configuring robust monitoring solutions for PostgreSQL databases using Azure's native monitoring tools and Azure Functions.

- Backup and Recovery of PostgreSQL DB : Performing routine and ad-hoc database backups and recoveries, ensuring data integrity and availability.

- Strong Understanding about Roles and Privilege Assignments : Managing user roles, permissions, and privileges within PostgreSQL to ensure secure and controlled access.

- Terraform and Ansible Knowledge along with Azure CLI : Proficiency in using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform and Ansible for automating Azure resource provisioning and configuration, alongside strong Azure CLI skills.

- Vacuum - DB Stats Gather : Understanding and implementing VACUUM operations and statistics gathering to maintain optimal database performance.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Beyond the primary skill set, you will be responsible for a range of critical database administration tasks, including :

Technical Scope :

- Creating/Managing Table Partitions, DB Reorganization, Rebuild, Truncate, Purge, and Gather Stats : Performing essential database maintenance activities to ensure efficiency and performance.

- Controlled and Monitored User Access to the Database : Including granting and revoking privileges and roles, allocation of resource limits, and tablespace management.

- Monitoring Oracle Database Server (where applicable) : Ensuring proper database availability, performance, and capacity. This includes monitoring Oracle server load, user sessions, and long-running operations.

- Alert Handling and Monitoring Tasks : Proactively responding to and resolving database alerts and performing continuous monitoring.

- Managing Database Connectivity, Networking, and Storage : Ensuring seamless database connectivity, optimizing network configurations, and managing storage resources.

- Monitoring and Resolving Lock Conflicts in Oracle Database (where applicable) : Identifying and resolving database lock contention to maintain application performance.

- Basic Day-to-Day Admin Commands Linux/Unix : Proficient in fundamental Linux/Unix commands for system administration and troubleshooting.

- Monitoring Systems Performance (CPU, Memory, I/O) : Analyzing system resource utilization to identify and address performance issues.

- Basic Shell Scripting & Automating Routine Tasks : Developing and utilizing shell scripts to automate repetitive administrative tasks.

- Tune Database Queries : Collaborating with development teams to optimize application queries for improved performance.

- Monitor Application Related Jobs and Data Replication Activities : Ensuring the successful execution of critical application jobs and data synchronization processes.

Secondary Skill Set :

- Azure Cloud : A strong understanding of the broader Azure cloud platform and services.

- Oracle Database : Basic understanding or exposure to Oracle Database administration concepts.

- Basic Understanding or Exposure to AI Tools : Familiarity with basic AI tools is considered an advantage and will be beneficial for future initiatives.
