We are committed to delivering exceptional translation services that bridge cultures and languages with precision and artistry.Position OverviewWe are seeking talented literary translators for an exciting upcoming project. This is a full-time, remote contract position offering monthly compensation. We welcome applications from translators specializing in any of the following Indian languages.The types of books include fiction and nonfiction, classics and modern, and children literature.Languages RequiredEnglish Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Bengali, Odia, Marathi, Assamese, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Bhojpuri, KonkaniKey Responsibilities- Translate literary works from source language (mostly English) to target language (mostly any one of the Indian languages) while preserving the author's voice, style, and intent - Maintain the cultural nuances, idiomatic expressions, and emotional depth of the original text - Conduct thorough research to ensure accuracy in historical, cultural, and contextual references - Collaborate with editors and project managers to refine translations - Meet project deadlines while maintaining high quality standards - Revise and refine translations based on feedback from editorial reviews - Ensure consistency in terminology and style throughout long-form literary worksRequired Qualifications- Native or near-native proficiency in the target Indian language - Excellent command of English (or relevant source language) - Bachelor's degree in Literature, Translation Studies, Linguistics, or related field (Master's degree preferred) or Equivalent - Minimum 3-5 years of professional translation experience, with demonstrated expertise in literary translation (At least 2 books translated with your name attributed as the translator) - Deep understanding of both source and target cultures - Strong attention to detail and commitment to linguistic accuracyPreferred Qualifications- Published literary translations or creative writing portfolio - Membership in professional translation associations - Experience translating specific literary genres (poetry, fiction, non-fiction, etc.) - Familiarity with translation software and CAT tools - Previous experience working with publishing houses or literary organizationsKey Competencies- Exceptional writing and editing skills in the target language - Sensitivity to stylistic and tonal variations in literary texts - Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment - Strong communication skills for collaborating with remote teams - Cultural awareness and adaptability - Creative problem-solving abilities for challenging translation passagesContract Details- Employment Type: Full-time contract position - Work Arrangement: Remote - Compensation: Monthly salary (competitive offer based on quality and experience) - Duration: Minimum 3 months and the project-based with potential for extensionApplication RequirementsPlease submit the following:- Updated CV/resume highlighting translation experience - Cover letter specifying your language specialization and relevant experience - Portfolio of previous literary translation work (2-3 samples) - Two professional references from previous translation projectsHow to ApplyInterested candidates should send their application materials to info@langscape.com, with subject line: Literary Translation (Source > Target)Application Deadline: 15 Oct 2025Langscape is an equal opportunity employer.
