You will partner closely with senior business and product leadership to drive innovative solutions that power our core infrastructure, transforming healthcare delivery through reliable, scalable systems. Your contributions will directly enhance corporate performance, elevate product capabilities, and improve patient outcomes. But enough about us—let’s talk about you.You are a hands-on technical leader with deep expertise in designing and building scalable full-stack web applications and platform services, ideally in hybrid public and private cloud environments. You're tenacious yet adaptable—a nimble learner who champions design and engineering excellence while fostering innovation through hands-on coding. You excel at overseeing system architecture and integration for platform tools, conducting technical experiments to push boundaries, and providing constructive code reviews that elevate team output. Escalate and resolve production issues to maintain system stability and uptime.- Lead System Direction and Practices: Set and champion platform direction, design patterns, and best practices for caching, configuration management, and release processes. Define and monitor key system SLAs, metrics, andobservability tools to ensure proactive capacity planning, performance optimization, and secure secret handling.- -Mentor and Align the Team: Act as the subject matter expert for platform areas like cache systems and release management, advising and training team members to boost overall productivity and technical alignment. Conduct code reviews, provide targeted feedback, and lead technical mentoring to foster a culture of continuous improvement.- Collaborate Across Organizations: Work hand-in-hand with Technology, Product, and cross-functional teams to align on business goals, integrating platform tools like Vault for secrets and LaunchDarkly for phased rollouts. Present system designs and roadmaps to stakeholders, ensuring seamless integration and visibility for technical achievements.- Champion Cross-Team Alignment: Collaborate with other technical leads to harmonize practices across cache, config, and release domains, escalating issues that impact broader system health while contributing to the platform's evolution in a fast-paced Agile environment.Typical Qualifications- 8+ years of experience in an engineering role, with proven hands-on leadership in full-stack development and platform engineering.- Strong experience in modern programming languages such as Java (including Spring Boot), Python, and TypeScript.- Proficiency in Unix/Linux environments, Big Data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark), SQL/NoSQL databases, distributed computing, RESTful APIs, WebUI (HTML5), and modern JavaScript frameworks.- Hands-on experience building and deploying applications in public/private cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure), including cache systems (e.g., Redis, Memcached), large scale configuration management tools, and large-scale automated testing infrastructures.- Exposure/ Knowledge in HashiCorp Vault for managed secrets and LaunchDarkly for feature flags and release management.- Exposure to AI/ML frameworks and tools is highly desirable.- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to quickly grasp and articulate nuances in the healthcare space.- Agile methodology experience preferred; demonstrated ability to thrive in collaborative, cross-functional teams.About athenahealthOur vision: In an industry that becomes more complex by the day, we stand for simplicity.
