About the Role :

We are seeking a driven and experienced Kong Developer & API Gateway Specialist to join our team In this role, you will play a crucial part in designing, developing, and implementing secure, scalable API solutions using Kong.

You will collaborate closely with engineers and product managers to ensure APIs meet business needs and integrate seamlessly with existing systems.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, and configure all aspects of Kong entities (services, routes, plugins, caching, API management, etc.

- Develop custom Lua scripts to extend Kong functionality and achieve complex requirements.

- Integrate Kong with existing APIs and backend systems, ensuring smooth data flow and communication.

- Manage API security through robust authentication (e.g, OAuth, OIDC), authorization, and rate limiting strategies.

- Implement effective traffic management features like load balancing and caching to optimize performance.

- Monitor Kong performance through comprehensive metrics, proactively identify and troubleshoot issues.

- Automate Kong configurations using DevOps principles and tools (e.g, Git, CI/CD) for streamlined deployment.

- Develop and maintain clear and informative API documentation using the Kong Developer Portal.

- Continuously stay updated on the latest Kong features, best practices, and emerging trends.

- Create, customize, and maintain custom Kong plugins to extend capabilities beyond core functionalities.

- Implement request and response transformations to tailor interactions based on specific customer needs.

- Apply Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) to secure API endpoints and enforce access permissions.

Qualifications :

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

- 2+ years of experience as a Kong Developer & Administrator, with a strong understanding of Kong's architecture and functionalities.

- Solid grasp of API design principles (RESTful APIs, OpenAPI specifications) for building well-structured and efficient APIs.

- Proven experience in working with web services and microservices architectures.

- Proficiency in scripting languages like Lua and Python for automating tasks and extending Kong capabilities.

- Experience with DevOps principles and tools (Git, CI/CD) to maintain a smooth development and deployment pipeline.

- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills to identify and resolve API-related issues effectively.

- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders.

A plus :


- Certifications in Kong or related technologies demonstrating expertise.


- Strong understanding of Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) implementations for granular access control.

- Experience with Kubernetes and Kong Ingress for deploying Kong in containerized environments (highly preferred).

- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) for cloud-based API deployments (a plus).

- Prior experience with API security tools (OAuth, OIDC, Auth0) to implement robust authentication and authorization mechanisms.

- Experience with API testing tools (Postman, JMeter, Insomnia) to thoroughly test and validate API functionality.
