Sr. Category Manager: Role Overview...

As a key member of the Global Category Management team at Johnson Controls, the Senior Category Manager plays a crucial role in collaborating with various stakeholders across JCI plants to formulate global sourcing strategies for essential categories. They strive to establish a top-tier global sourcing framework, serve as a Center of Excellence for their designated categories, actively support business ventures in new product development, and aid plants in meeting their operational goals.

Reporting directly to the Director of Category Management, the Category Manager assumes a strategic procurement role focused on ensuring alignment of strategic commodities throughout the business functions. By joining this team, you will engage in a dynamic environment that offers significant exposure and influence.

As a Category Manager, your responsibilities include overseeing the micro category spend budget and associated savings, as well as devising, communicating, and executing comprehensive category strategies.

The ideal Category Manager excels in handling uncertainty, making informed decisions, adapting to change, and managing multiple priorities effortlessly. Collaboration is key as you work as part of a team, demonstrating fairness and cooperation. Your planning, organizational, and time management skills are exceptional, allowing you to drive continual learning and foster internal and external collaboration to enhance team performance and best practices.

Strategies and Responsibilities...

  • Develop detailed global category strategies for high-spend categories influencing multiple product business units and regions.
  • Ensure alignment of category strategies with business objectives and requirements.
  • Lead the Knowledge-based Sourcing (KBS) team for assigned categories to optimize the global supply base.
  • Conduct negotiations, manage supplier contracts, and oversee the contract lifecycle.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for respective categories, keeping abreast of industry trends, competition, and emerging technologies.
  • Ensure continuity of supply and mitigate risks efficiently, collaborating with plants to address quality, delivery, and capacity issues.
  • Assist in make vs. buy decisions and strive to exceed profit plan goals related to categories.
  • Conduct regular category reviews with the global category team to align strategies across plants and regions.

Requirements...

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a strategic sourcing role within HVAC, engineering, or a large global manufacturing organization.
  • Demonstrated strong negotiation skills and ability to engage with senior leadership internally and externally.
  • Proficiency in purchasing tools and practices, MS Office, costing, and analytics.
  • Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems.
  • Fluency in English is advantageous.
  • Up to 30% travel required, both domestically and globally.
