Role Description:

  • Seeking a seasoned leader to take on the position of Technical Director (Civils) to focus on various Water projects in the UK region from our Design Centers in India.

Job Purpose:

  • Provide civils discipline leadership within the water team, fostering relationships across Arcadis and our client base, taking charge of civil engineering delivery and quality assurance, supporting project delivery or specialized project components.
  • Shape and lead the GEC water civils team capacity, ensuring optimal recruitment, deployment, and management of resources for projects and frameworks.
  • Engage with peers in civil engineering in the UK, offering leadership that bridges UK and GEC teams at all levels.
  • Take on senior project roles when necessary to lead the execution of major projects.
  • Manage risk on major projects by leading independent technical reviews and implementing review recommendations.
  • Individuals at this level should consistently strive to enhance the business strategically and at a personal level, executing strategies to deliver concrete outcomes for the Arcadis business.
  • Individuals at this level deliver inspiring leadership to our team members and support them in realizing their full potential.

Role Accountabilities:

  • Set an example to encourage continuous improvement in SHE performance across the company, including safety through design initiatives and any personal targets defined.
  • Cultivate internal relationships to identify and capitalize on service delivery efficiency opportunities, making sure client expectations and Arcadis commercial goals are met or exceeded.
  • Offer professional leadership at a civils discipline level and uphold technical quality standards for the GEC civils team.
  • Evaluate the technical proficiency of civils staff assigned to projects, supporting team members in reaching their potential, identifying and addressing specific training and mentoring requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with the GEC BA Manager and UK discipline lead, aiding in the recruitment and growth of the GEC civils team, setting goals and managing performance to ensure the team possesses the necessary resources and capabilities to achieve desired results.
  • Ensure effective leadership of complex technical projects with seamless communication and collaboration between GEC, UK, and partner organizations, actively leading technical issue resolutions.
  • Stay updated on advancements in the civil engineering industry.
  • Alongside UK colleagues, establish and align on key performance objectives and financial budgets for the civils team to optimize business performance in line with defined goals.
  • Conduct independent technical reviews for complex and high-risk projects critical to the Arcadis business.
  • Promote innovative and entrepreneurial thinking among team members.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Possess a BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline.
  • Preferred: Obtained Member and Chartered professional status with the ICE.
  • Accumulated 25+ years of experience.

Required Competencies:

  • Demonstrate successful technical/design leadership of a large team (>50FTE).
  • Experience in delivering civil engineering solutions within complex multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Proficient in designing and managing civil engineering aspects of multi-disciplinary projects in the water sector covering various project types.
  • Skillful in managing projects in a Design & Build and client-side environment from inception to detailed design delivery.
  • Solid understanding of structural, geotechnical, hydraulic, and process design principles.
  • Capable of fulfilling multi-disciplinary technical review and assurance roles.
  • Lead Safety by Design and CDM compliance initiatives for continual improvement.
  • Familiar with key UK legislation, hazards, and safety protocols.
  • Strong stakeholder management abilities, including awareness of other discipline contributions influencing civils solutions.
  • Strategic thinking capability.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experienced in cultural diversity and working within international project teams.
  • Thorough understanding of sustainable design principles.
  • Sound knowledge of commercial management and project delivery principles.
  • Prioritize health, safety, and overall well-being of team members.
  • Focus on designing and implementing efficient project delivery processes.
  • Establish credible relationships with senior stakeholders on a peer-to-peer basis.
