Job Overview

As the Vice President of Engineering, you will spearhead our efforts to enhance the scalability, performance, and architecture of our technology platform. Your leadership will be instrumental in optimizing our microservices architecture to ensure seamless customer interactions, from browsing to booking. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to shape the technical roadmap, foster innovation, and deliver exceptional experiences to our customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of directors, engineering managers and technical leads across Customer Experience teams, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Define and drive the technical strategy and roadmap for scalability, performance, and microservices architecture, aligning it with business objectives and customer needs.
  • Champion best practices in software engineering, including agile methodologies, continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD), and DevOps principles.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements and user needs into technical solutions.
  • Architect and design robust, scalable, and fault-tolerant microservices-based systems, leveraging modern technologies and cloud-native architectures.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of high-quality backend features and enhancements, leveraging best practices in software development, testing, and deployment.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, and guidelines to ensure consistency, reliability, and security across backend codebases.
  • Lead efforts to optimize platform performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions to improve latency, throughput, and resource utilization.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential impact and relevance to our platform roadmap.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance in resolving complex technical challenges, debugging issues, and optimizing backend performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Proven experience (15+ years) in a senior engineering leadership role, with a focus on customer-facing ecommerce platforms.
  • Extensive experience designing and architecting microservices-based systems, with a deep understanding of scalability, performance, and reliability considerations.
  • Strong technical proficiency in modern software development technologies and frameworks, including Java, Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Docker, etc.
  • Proficiency in building RESTful APIs and microservices architectures using Java frameworks such as Spring Boot, database technologies (SQL and NoSQL), cloud technologies (AWS) etc.
  • Expertise in optimizing platform performance, including latency reduction, throughput optimization, and resource utilization.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams, drive alignment, and influence stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing technical challenges.
