Job Title:
Veterinary Office - Poultry

*Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Veterinarian Officer specializing in poultry diseases and diagnosis. The role involves traveling to various poultry farms, conducting diagnoses, performing post-mortems on chickens, and preparing monthly management information system (MIS) reports based on farm visits and observations.

*Responsibilities:

1. *Farm Visits:

  • Conduct regular visits to poultry farms to monitor the health status of the flocks.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments of poultry health, including visual inspections and diagnostic tests.

2. *Disease Diagnosis:

  • Identify and diagnose poultry diseases promptly and accurately.
  • Implement appropriate treatment protocols and biosecurity measures to control outbreaks.
  • Provide guidance to farmers on disease management and prevention strategies.

3. *Post-Mortem Examination:

  • Conduct post-mortem examinations on deceased poultry to determine the cause of death.
  • Collect samples for further analysis and laboratory testing.

4. *Traveling:

  • Travel to different locations as required to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Ensure timely and efficient completion of farm visits and related tasks.

5. *Data Collection and Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of farm visits, including observations, diagnoses, and treatments administered.
  • Prepare monthly MIS reports summarizing key findings, trends, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to disseminate information and implement corrective actions.

6. *Training and Education:

  • Provide training and educational sessions for farmers and farm staff on poultry health, disease prevention, and biosecurity practices.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in poultry virology and related fields through continuous learning and professional development.
*Requirements:

  • Veterinary degree BVSc / MvSc
  • Specialization or significant experience in Poultry management & disease diagnosis
  • Proven track record in diagnosing and managing poultry diseases, preferably in a field setting.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with farmers, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work flexible hours as needed.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, guidelines, and best practices in poultry health and biosecurity.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software for data management and reporting.
*Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (e.g.,MVSc & BVSc) Poultry science, Pathology, Microbiology .
  • Certification or training in poultry health management or epidemiology.
  • Previous experience working with poultry farmers or in the poultry industry.
  • Fluency in multiple languages, especially those commonly spoken in agricultural communities.
