About the Role:

As an AWS FinOps Engineer, you'll be key to optimizing our cloud expenses and ensuring sound financial operations within our AWS setup. This role involves actively managing, supervising, and enhancing our AWS framework, using Python programming, DevOps expertise, and collaborating with FinOps consultants to compile and configure financial operation reports from multiple channels.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and execute a comprehensive AWS cost optimization strategy in coordination with varied teams.
  • Continually monitor AWS resource utilization, pinpoint cost-saving prospects, and apply optimization measures through automation and Python scripting.
  • Establish and maintain cost allocation strategies for accurate tracking and distribution of AWS expenses across departments and projects.
  • Collaborate with AWS services like AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Trusted Advisor, and AWS Budgets to analyze cost and usage data effectively.
  • Set and track AWS-specific financial KPIs, provide regular reports on cost performance, and identify areas for enhancement.
  • Enforce and oversee AWS-specific cost governance practices and policies to align with business goals.
  • Work with DevOps teams to exploit Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools to optimize AWS resource provisioning.
  • Develop custom scripts and automation employing Python, AWS SDKs, AWS CLI, and IaC for automated cost management tasks.
  • Collaborate closely with FinOps consultants to gather data and configure FinOps reports from different sources, including AWS and financial systems.
  • Work collaboratively with finance and procurement teams to ensure precise and punctual AWS billing and invoicing.
  • Offer cost optimization recommendations based on AWS best practices, industry benchmarks, and insights from reports.
  • Engage in AWS billing and contract discussions to secure favorable terms and pricing.
  • Stay informed about AWS pricing models, services, and features to identify cost-saving opportunities proactively.
  • Conduct AWS cost and usage analysis for varied projects and departments, providing insights and suggestions.
  • Aid in developing reports and dashboards for monitoring AWS costs and usage.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in managing AWS infrastructure and optimizing cloud costs.
  • Thorough understanding of AWS services, pricing structures, and cost management tools.
  • Proficient in Python scripting and automation using AWS SDKs, AWS CLI, and IaC tools.
  • Familiarity with AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Trusted Advisor, AWS Budgets, and similar cost analysis tools.
  • Sound comprehension of AWS billing, invoicing, and financial reporting.
  • DevOps skills along with knowledge of DevOps methodologies and tools.
  • Effective collaboration skills with cross-functional teams, encompassing DevOps, finance, and procurement.
  • Strong analytical capabilities to detect and prioritize cost optimization opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey cost optimization recommendations and insights to diverse stakeholders.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and self-motivated, focusing on achieving AWS cost-efficiency objectives.
  • Good leadership, communication, and team management skills to guide project direction and mentor team members.

Good to Have:

  • Understanding of the insurance domain.
  • Thorough knowledge of a wide array of AWS services (EC2, S3, Lambda, etc.) and their pricing models.
  • Experience with cost optimization techniques for AWS services like reserved instances, spot instances, and Savings Plans.
  • Proficiency with AWS cost management tools like Cost Explorer, Budgets, and Trusted Advisor.
  • Familiarity with AWS CloudFormation or other IaC tools for efficient cloud resource management.
  • Knowledge of Document management and generation systems/applications.
  • Any AWS certification (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer) is advantageous.
