Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee all aspects of financial management in our fast-paced commercial company. Our business specializes in the sale of hardwood flooring and operates across multiple regions with a complex revenue and inventory system. The Financial Controller will manage financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis while ensuring compliance with financial regulations. This role will also play a key role in cost control by managing and distinguishing between controllable and non-controllable expenses, providing actionable insights to drive operational efficiency.

Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:
    Lead the preparation and presentation of monthly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy. Provide insightful analysis of financial performance, focusing on profitability, revenue trends, and cost structures.
  • Revenue & Inventory Management:
    Oversee the revenue recognition process in line with complex sales contracts, ensuring accurate and timely reporting. Manage the company's inventory reporting, coordinating with operations to ensure accurate inventory valuation and minimizing discrepancies.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
    Work closely with the CFO to Develop, implement, and monitor budgets in collaboration with the sales and operations teams. Provide monthly forecasts and perform variance analysis, identifying and addressing any financial discrepancies or issues. Ensure budgets are aligned with the company's strategic goals.
  • Cost Control & Expense Management:
    Monitor and manage expenses, with a focus on separating controllable and non-controllable costs. Provide regular reports and recommendations on cost-saving initiatives, operational efficiencies, and areas for improvement.
  • Cash Flow Management:
    Work closely with the CFO to ensure effective cash flow management, overseeing accounts payable/receivable, working capital, and liquidity. Work closely with the treasury team to optimize cash management across regional operations.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance:
    Maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations. Coordinate and support internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and addressing findings.
  • Team Leadership:
    Grow, Lead, mentor, and develop a team of bookkeepers, financial accountants, ensuring high performance and continuous professional development. Foster a collaborative working relationship with other departments, including sales, operations, and supply chain.
  • Financial Systems & Technology:
    Oversee the optimization of financial systems and tools (e.g., Operations and accounting software, inventory management systems) to improve reporting accuracy, operational efficiency, and financial data integrity. Ensure the systems can support complex revenue recognition and inventory processes.
  • Strategic Support & Decision Making:
    Provide actionable insights and financial guidance to the leadership team to support key business decisions. Analyse financial performance against KPIs, market trends, and operational data, and offer strategic recommendations to improve financial outcomes.


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Education:
    Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. A Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Finance is a plus.
  • Experience:
    7+ years of experience in financial management or accounting, with at least 3 years in a financial controller or similar role. Experience in the commercial sector, specifically in sales or inventory-intensive businesses, is highly preferred.
  • Certifications:
    Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation is strongly preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in Accounting systems and financial reporting software.
    • Strong expertise in revenue recognition, inventory accounting, and cost allocation methods.
    • Advanced Excel skills, including financial analysis.
    • In-depth knowledge of financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
    • Excellent understanding of internal controls and financial compliance.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to manage complex financial systems and processes across multiple regions.
