Payroll Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute accurate, timely payroll for all staff members.
  • Maintain and update detailed, confidential payroll records and databases.
  • Ensure adherence to required payroll regulations, as well as university-specific policies and legal requirements in both academic and non-academic areas.
  • Generate and analyze payroll reports for internal audits and external regulatory compliance.
  • Stay current on legislative changes affecting payroll and private university operations, adapting processes accordingly.
  • Work collaboratively with HR, Finance, and Legal teams to resolve payroll discrepancies and ensure policy compliance.
  • Serve as the point of contact for payroll-related inquiries from employees.
  • Assist with benefits administration and coordination with external vendors, particularly during system upgrades or audits.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in payroll management.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of payroll processing experience; prior experience in a higher education environment or a similar complex organization is highly desirable.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance standards, including those unique to academic institutions.
  • Proficiency with payroll software and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments.
